West Brom ace still on the radar of Premier League side

Sam Johnstone in action for West Brom.

Tottenham still remain interested in signing West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, per a report.

The shot-stopper was heavily linked with a move away from the Hawthorns in the summer. West Ham reportedly failed in their bid to sign him as they struggled to match the Baggies’ asking price. Despite relegation last season, Johnstone was an influential player for his side, earning the club’s Player of the Year award.

According to Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge, Spurs are still looking at West Brom’s number one and could make a move in the January transfer window.

Johnstone has now been recognised on an international level. Featuring for England twice in their recent 2022 World Cup qualification games, he assisted Jack Grealish for his goal against Andorra.

Since the arrival of Valerien Ismael, Johnstone has also been a mainstay in his side this campaign.

Only missing one Championship game this season, he’s collected six clean sheets.  He’s been a key reason as to why the Baggies find themselves sitting third in the league.

However, talks are now ongoing due to the 28 year old’s contract running out at the end of the season. Ismael will be looking to cement Johnstone down to a new deal.

It would make sense for Spurs to be monitoring the former Manchester United man. As Hugo Lloris is close to turning 35, the North London side will be looking to bolster their goalkeeping options.

Ismael gives update on Alex Mowatt

West Brom boss Valerien Ismael has stated Alex Mowatt will not be face to fit Fulham at the weekend.

The game against their promotion rivals has come too soon for the dynamic midfielder who has missed their last two league games.

On Mowatt, Ismael said: “I think that we need to make sure that we take time with him and assess him every day to make sure he is fine with his fitness but at the minute he’s not 100%.

“For what we want to play and what we want to see, what we expect from our players, you need to be 100%, any less than that and it makes no sense.”

A win against Fulham would see the Baggies leapfrog their opponents to jump into the automatic places.
