A West Ham United insider claims the side are very keen on bringing in Bologna left-back Aaron Hickey, who has been on the radar of Aston Villa.
Hickey has been one of the breakout stars in Serie A this season. Indeed, the Scotsman has featured in each of Bologna’s league games, and has scored four times.
Premier League interest in the promising defender has been reported of late. He has been on the radar of Aston Villa for some time.
However, Villa’s reported interest in Lucas Digne would likely put a stop to their pursuit of Hickey. What’s more, that move seems to be edging closer.
Nevertheless, Hickey is still being pursued by a side in the English top flight. A West Ham insider claims David Moyes is keen on taking his compatriot to the London Stadium.
“I’ve been told there’s another Scottish left-back that we may have an interest in, he currently plays for Bologna and is called Aaron Hickey,” he said via Football Fancast.
Furthermore, the insider feels that Villa’s interest in Digne will give the Hammers a clean shot at Hickey.
“He was on the brink of joining Aston Villa, and Aston Villa are on the brink of signing Lucas Digne – the Everton left-back – who we were also showing a distant interest in. That interest stopped quite early on when we discovered his wage demands,” he said.

“I think Moyes is looking to get someone a bit younger with a bit more to prove, and someone who more fits the bill. So this Scottish left-back at Bologna… he’s a very good player with a lot of potential.”
Indeed, Scottish left-backs tend to succeed in the Premier League. Andrew Robertson and Kieran Tierney are both highly influential for their respective sides.
Hickey and Ake could join West Ham defence
West Ham are also interested in Manchester City defender Nathan Ake, in order to bolster their defence.
The side have been left bare in the centre of the defence, after injuries to Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma. As such, adding a capable centre-back would be a smart move for the side.
Ake has surfaced as a decent option for the Hammers to pursue.
However, AC Milan are also reportedly interested in the Dutchman. What’s more, City seem reluctant to let Ake go, due to availability issues across the whole of the Premier League at present.
