West Ham plotting move for £21m January target, overshadowed by Jesse Lingard chase

Antonin Barak, Hellas Verona, February 2022.

West Ham have learned the price for Hellas Verona midfielder Antonin Barak, who they held an interest in both last summer, and in January.

The Hammers were reportedly interested in a move for Barak in January. However, they were clinging on to hope that they would land Jesse Lingard, so focus was not on Barak.

However, it seems the attacking-midfielder is back in David Moyes’ transfer plans.

This season, Barak has contributed to 14 goals in 23 league games. The Czech’s 10 goals place him within the top-ten goal-scorers in Serie A for this campaign.

Clearly, Barak has an eye for goal, and given West Ham’s goals have come from all over this season, he would be a top addition.

A report from Calciomercato claims that Verona will accept no less than £21million for the 27-year-old.

Indeed, that seems a good price for a player of Barak’s quality. Furthermore, he should gel in the squad, given his compatriots Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal play for West Ham.

There is, however, reported interest from Napoli for Barak.

The Hammers may be forced into a battle with the Serie A side for Barak’s signature, should they both pursue the midfielder.

That would likely see Barak’s price rise, and a massive increase could make it best for Moyes’ side to back out, given they already possess a good deal of midfield talent.

Barak and Coucke could head to West Ham

Gaetan Coucke West Ham target

In other news, West Ham could be given an easy opportunity to sign goalkeeper Gaetan Coucke from KV Mechelen. The stopper is reportedly keen on a move no East London.

Coucke could be one of a few signings in the summer.

Moyes may want to bring in some fresh talent following a slow January in terms of transfers.

The side will want to build on their good form this season, and bringing in new talent will, of course, help with that.
