David Moyes’ top two striker targets emerge with West Ham boss ‘overseeing’ deal

David Moyes during Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham

West Ham’s top two striker targets have been revealed by one outlet as David Moyes looks to add to his strikeforce before Monday’s transfer deadline.

With Moyes reliant on Michail Antonio the Hammers boss is desperate to get some cover as they push their claims for a top-four spot. A number of players from abroad have been linked with a switch, but it has been reported that the club’s top targets are both based in England.

According to Football Insider the Hammers have “narrowed down their striker search to Southampton loanee Armando Broja and Blackburn Rovers’ Ben Brereton Diaz”.

What’s more Moyes is “hopeful” of securing a deal before the deadline. It’s unclear exactly which one of the two West Ham will plump for, but it’s unlikely they will land both.

Broja, 20, is a Chelsea striker currently on loan at Southampton. He signed on a season-long loan deal last summer and has scored five goals in 18 appearances.

Transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano has reported that Saints are delighted with his progress and are set to launch a £25m bid for Broja “soon”.

Ralph Hasenhuttl is keen to keep the Albanian  at St Mary’s beyond this season.

Newcastle have also been linked with the towering forward, but Hammers recruitment chief Rob Newman has been very impressed with the player.

He is said to be personally tracking the attacker and was in attendance at St Mary’s Stadium earlier this month. Broja scored in that game as Southampton defeated Brentford 4-1 in the Premier League.

West Ham chase Brereton Diaz in South America

Blackburn’s Diaz though is also on West Ham’s list. And Moyes “is believed to be personally overseeing the club’s late-window assault”.

The Chile forward is out of contract this summer, although Rovers have the option to trigger a one-year extension.

He has been in sensational goalscoring form this season. He has netted 20 goals in 27 league appearances to push Blackburn into the promotion picture.

Diaz scored his fourth goal in 10 caps for Chile on Thursday. But they were beaten 2-1 in a World Cup qualifier by Argentina, who were without Lionel Messi.

A deal for the player, who is rated at around £25m, according to the Daily Express, will be difficult. He is currently away in South America with Chile set to face Bolivia in another World Cup qualifier next Tuesday.

Diaz does tick early every box of Moyes’s West Ham recruitment policy. The club plucked Jarrod Bowen from Championship Hull two years ago in a £20m-plus deal.

That has not worked out too bad. Bowen, 25, has starred for the club this season with nine goals and 10 assists so far.
