West Ham braced for huge offer after Euro giants begin targeting recent Moyes signing to revamp attack

Tomas Soucek, Maxwel Cornet and Gianluca Scamacca of West Ham

Gianluca Scamacca might leave West Ham after just one year at the London Stadium as a major Italian club have begun pursuing him, according to a report.

West Ham spent £35.5million to sign Scamacca from Sassuolo in July last year. The Italy international joined David Moyes’ side to provide competition for Michail Antonio up front.

Hammers fans were expecting big things from Scamacca after he enjoyed a great season with Sassuolo in 2021-22. He registered 16 goals in 38 matches to help Sassuolo finish 11th in Serie A.

Despite his good pedigree and hefty price tag, Scamacca has yet to make a significant impact for West Ham. He has shown flashes of brilliance and scored seven goals in 25 appearances. But so far the 24-year-old has yet to produce the kind of form expected of him.

To make matters worse for Scamacca, he has not played a league game since January 21 due to a knee injury. He has been left on the bench by Moyes in each of West Ham’s last three league outings and is awaiting an opportunity to get back among the goals.

According to a big recent update from Calciomercato, Scamacca is already considering his future with the Hammers. He is unsure whether it is the right move for him.

That report mentioned AC Milan as a potential destination for the attacker. But as per an update from Gazzetta dello Sport, Scamacca could actually end up at their local rivals Inter Milan.

The Nerazzurri are in talks with Edin Dzeko over a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in June. But an agreement has yet to be reached and Inter chiefs are starting to look at potential replacements.

Inter view West Ham player as potential Dzeko successor

Scamacca is one player they are considering. They like the fact he already has experience scoring goals in Serie A, which means he would not need time to adapt.

Inter are hopeful Scamacca will push for the transfer. Joining one of Italy’s most successful teams would help him to get the attention of national team boss Roberto Mancini. This is arguably the main reason why Scamacca would ask to join Inter.

Inter are not as rich as some clubs in the Premier League. But if they sell the likes of Alessandro Bastoni and Denzel Dumfries to English teams in the summer, then they would have the funds to launch a big offer for Scamacca.

Despite Inter’s interest in the nine-cap international, it is hard to see him leaving West Ham this summer. They have only just invested £35.5m in him and will want to reap the rewards of this transfer before allowing an exit to happen.

Next season will be a big campaign for Scamacca. He will have a year of English football under his belt and West Ham fans will therefore expect him to contribute more goals.

If Scamacca fails to improve his goal tally next term, then West Ham would be more likely to engage in exit talks with Inter.

Meanwhile, reports in Italy claim West Ham have offered Moyes’ job to a top Serie A coach.
