West Ham in the hunt for potent Bayern Munich attacker available for bargain price

Joshua Zirkzee, Anderlecht, February 2022.

West Ham are in the hunt for a striker, and have landed on Bayern Munich youngster Joshua Zirkzee, who would reportedly command just a small fee.

The Hammers were tracking a number of strikers in the January window. They failed in their attempts to sign Darwin Nunez due to a lack of time to get the deal over the line.

The need for a striker is evident for a number of reasons, not least because Michail Antonio is the only recognised senior striker in the squad.

What’s more, Jarrod Bowen, a winger, has outscored the Jamaican international so far this season. Antonio has scored nine goals in the campaign thus far and has failed to hit the net in his last seven outings.

As such, West Ham are plotting a move for a flourishing striker. Jeunes Footeux claims the Hammers are interested in Bayern forward Joshua Zirkzee.

The 20-year-old, who is on loan at Anderlecht, has scored 14 goals and assisted eight in this season. Furthermore, he is within the Belgian Pro League’s top-ten scorers. As such, he could prove worth a gamble despite his impressive form coming in a weaker league.

Chelsea and Manchester United have found out West Ham set £120m price tag for Declan Rice

What’s more, the report states he should not go for more than €10-12million (£8.5-10million).
Zirkzee could be both a solid squad player for the moment, and may establish himself as a regular starter down the line.

In other news, West Ham are reportedly targeting Aston Villa loanee Philippe Coutinho. David Moyes’ side have been warned of the dangers of getting embroiled in a battle to sign the Brazilian.

Transfer insider Dean Jones thinks they should be mindful.

“I don’t know where I see Coutinho right now,” he said.

“I think West Ham will be mindful of what they’re signing in Coutinho, if they were to go down that path. Because it would take a lot of money.”

With Aston Villa likely keen on activating their option to buy, another club coming in would ramp the price up.
