West Ham on alert as Italian club set to make a decision on top Hammers target

West Ham boss David Moyes

West Ham are said to be weighing up a swoop for Fiorentina goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski as David Moyes searches for Lukasz Fabianski’s long-term successor.

Fabianski is showing no signs of slowing down for the Hammers. Indeed Moyes has been that impressed the Poland international has been offered a new one-year deal. However that is not to say he does not have an eye on the future.

At 37 the clocking is ticking on Fabianski’s career and Moyes will need a replacement at some point. Alphonse Areola is one option for the Hammers boss.

Areola one option for Moyes

The 29-year-old is currently on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. West Ham do have the option to make the deal permanent but Moyes has yet to decide.

He does have time on his side and in the meantime is looking at all options. And according to Italian publication Corriere Fiorentino, Dragowski is one of them.

The Poland shot-stopper has just one year remaining on his current deal. With that in mind the report claims that Fiorentina could cash in if they receive a good enough offer. It goes on to say there is plenty of interest and names West Ham as a possible destination.

The 24-year-old is struggling to get a game at the moment. The Viola have Pietro Terracciano as their current number one and Dragowski is having to settle for the bench.

That would also be the case if he made the switch to West Ham. However he may not have to wait too long before being handed the chance to take the gloves of Fabianski. Terracciano is just 32 and could be going nowhere for a good while.

Dragowski is four years younger than Areola and that could be crucial when Moyes makes a decision. And despite his age he has plenty of experience. He has made 86 appearances for Fiorentina so knows what he is doing.

West Ham linked with duo

West Ham would not have to break the bank to land him either due to his contract situation. The Hammers would have to pay much more to land the other names in the frame.

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has been linked but would cost £40m. He would also have to go straight in to the first team at that price.

West Brom custodian Sam Johnstone is another option. Again he would be expensive and Tottenham are said to be in the box seat there.

Now all eyes will be on Moyes’ decision regards Areola who could still sign a permanent deal.
