West Ham face potential transfer battle with Burnley for Liverpool man after losing target

West Ham could be set for a transfer battle with Premier League rivals Burnley after they lost out on a reported transfer target.
The Hammers have been linked with a number of attackers in the last 12 months after letting Sebastien Haller leave the club. It was claimed back in November that they had finally shortlisted two strikers on their wish list.
The first was Mohamed Bayo, a 23-year-old who has scored nine goals in 17 appearances in Ligue 1 for Clermont this season.
However, journalist Alan Nixon has claimed Bayo is no longer for sale.
He tweeted: “West Ham, Brighton and Southampton won’t get striker Bayo from Clermont this season. Now needed to avoid relegation.”
David Moyes is therefore left with Liverpool’s Divock Origi from his 2021 list.
The Reds back-up striker is out of contract at the end of the season so may be available on the cheap, though Jurgen Klopp is reluctant to let him go.
He has shown his quality on a few occasions in recent years. His strike in the 2019 Champions League final is one such example.
And that’s why he is also attracting the attention of Sean Dyche, as per a report by The Sun.

The Clarets are in need of a new frontman after Newcastle poached Chris Wood from them. And the £25m fee they received means they aren’t short of funds.
They have put Origi on their own shortlist alongside fellow Belgian Christian Benteke, who is slowly falling out of favour at Crystal Palace.
From Origi’s point of view, West Ham are a much more attractive option. They currently sit in the Champions League spots, while Burnley are the league’s basement side.
West Ham and Burnley on collision course
The two clubs have also both laid eyes on Cardiff striker Kiefer Moore, it has been claimed.
According to GiveMeSport, the Clarets have identified the 6 ft 5 target man as a potential Wood replacement in the January transfer window.
Moore has been heavily linked with a move away from the Welsh club this month. And the Hammers and Bournemouth are also interested parties.

The 29-year-old has scored just five goals in 22 games for The Bluebirds this season. He has struggled to find the form he was in last year.
He is currently under contract at Cardiff until 2023.
