Moyes tipped to perform Bowen masterstroke again, with ex-Prem star keen on West Ham

Gerard Deulofeu is keen on a move to West Ham from Udinese amid transfer interest from the Hammers, according to a report.

The 28-year-old is a Barcelona academy graduate but made 127 Premier League experiences in three separate spells in the English top flight. Following a loan move Everton in 2013, he returned on a permanent deal in 2015.

From there, he played for AC Milan and back at Barcelona, before signing for Watford.

Deulofeu is now in Serie A with Udinese and has scored 11 goals in 41 games for the club.

And he has emerged as a fresh West Ham transfer target in recent weeks.

Speaking on the West Ham Way podcast, club insider ExWHUemployee insisted that the ex-Spain international wants the move to the London Stadium.

“He’s also supposedly good friends with [Pablo] Fornals,” the insider said. “He’s [Fornals] keen on him coming.

“He could also play up front as well so he could be another winger that Moyes converts into a striker.

“Apparently Deulofeu is keen on a move as well.”

Indeed, West Ham manager David Moyes has deployed Jarrod Bowen – who has made his name as a winger – as a striker at times this season.

The Englishman, who has been West Ham‘s main man with 12 goals and 11 assists this term – has not seen his performances dip, either.

The Hammers have enjoyed fantastic recruitment in recent seasons following manager Moyes’ return to east London. Signings such as midfielder Tomas Soucek and centre-back Kurt Zouma have proved effective.

However, up front is where there is a need for a new signing. Striker Michail Antonio recently signed a new contract, but at 32, the injury-prone forward has limited time left.

As such, Bowen – another star signing under Moyes – has become crucial up front.

And while they have not suffered too much since the 25-year-old has been injured, they would not want to be without him for too long.

As for who could come in, West Ham tried and failed to bolster their ranks in January. They had bids for Darwin Nunez and Hugo Ekitike rejected by Benfica and Reims, respectively.

Deulofeu has proven he can score goals in the Premier League – he struck 20 in his time in the top flight – and he may be a good alternative to Bowen and Antonio.
