West Ham on verge of Gianluca Scamacca signing as personal terms finalised; player to travel to London

West Ham are close to announcing the arrival of Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo after reportedly agreeing personal terms with the striker, who is now set to fly to London.
The Hammers have been searching for a new striker since Sebastien Haller left for Ajax in January 2021. The Ivorian has since moved to Borussia Dortmund, showing just how long it’s been since David Moyes got a new goalscorer in his ranks.
West Ham set their sights on Darwin Nunez during the winter transfer window. They made an offer worth £60million for the Uruguayan, which would have seen him become their record signing.
However, Benfica rejected the proposal and instead sold Nunez to Liverpool earlier this summer, for an initial £64m.
West Ham have had to look at alternative strikers since then and seem to have found their man.
On Friday, they reached an agreement with Sassuolo to bring Scamacca to the London Stadium. As per Fabrizio Romano, West Ham will send a downpayment worth £30.5m. The deal could rise to £35.6m if certain clauses are met.
The next day, Sassuolo chief executive Giovanni Carnevali confirmed the player’s move to West Ham. He says the Italian club have a 10 per cent sell-on clause on Scamacca, as West Ham ‘are a selling club’.
Moyes’ side have taken another big step in the transfer pursuit. According to 90Min, they have agreed personal terms with the 23-year-old.
Gianluca Scamacca contract length revealed
Should the move go through, then Scamacca will pen a five-year deal in east London.
The Guardian provide their own information. They reveal Scamacca, a European Championship winner with Italy, will travel to London tonight (Monday) to undergo a medical.
They also claim Scamacca’s potential five-year contract includes the option of a further year, should he do well in the Premier League.
West Ham striker Michail Antonio has previously called upon the club to bring in a new hitman. He wants competition and backup, in case he gets injured.
Scamacca will provide both of those things. And he is a good goalscorer too, having found the net 24 times in 65 Serie A appearances.
Scamacca isn’t the only player due to arrive at West Ham in the next few days. Eintracht Frankfurt star Filip Kostic shares the same agent and West Ham are also in talks about his capture.
Romano believes talks between West Ham and Frankfurt are ‘progressing well’. Kostic must wait for Scamacca’s move to become official before he can join too.
This is shaping up to be a great transfer window from the Irons. They have already brought in Nayef Aguerd, Alphonse Areola and Flynn Downes.
Scamacca and Kostic would be the pick of the bunch, though. They are two players with the ability to make it at the top level, who should walk straight into Moyes’ starting eleven.
Meanwhile, West Ham have reportedly made an approach to sign a top Arsenal midfield target.
