West Ham star’s contract hopes could spurn Moyes’ best-laid transfer plans
West Ham number one Lukasz Fabianski has hinted at extending his contract with the Hammers in a move that could affect their overriding transfer plans.
The Hammers have continued their stunning form from last season in the current campaign. The East London side sit fourth in the Premier League table on 17 points.
They have also performed well in the Europa League, winning each of their three games in Group H. Furthermore, they are yet to concede a goal in Europe this season.
The goalkeeping duties have been shared in the Europa League so far. Lukasz Fabianski has played one game, and Alphonse Areola – on loan from Paris Saint-Germain – has started the other two.
Fabianski recently commented on his contract situation. His current deal runs out at the end of the season, but he has mentioned possibly extending for another year, as he did in May.
“That’s right. It’s not just West Ham’s policy that footballers of a certain age extend from season to season. This is actually a logical solution for many reasons,” he told Meczyki (via Sport Witness).
“Of course, the most important thing in all this is health and sports level. If I can manage these aspects, I see no problem in extending the contract.”
This may hamper the Hammers’ plans to promote Alphonse Areola to the number one spot. The Frenchman has an option to buy in his loan from PSG, and has impressed in a West Ham shirt so far.
Spurs to rival West Ham for Genk goalscoring machine
Genk forward Paul Onuachu is reportedly in demand as Spurs are set to rival West Ham for his signature, with more updates on Dusan Vlahovic and Declan Rice.
Areola is yet to concede in his three games this season, and seems the obvious heir to the goalkeeper spot at West Ham. Fabianski signing a new deal may have an impact on the Hammers’ decision on whether to buy Areola at the end of his loan or not.
Nevertheless, Fabianski clearly feels as if he still has a lot to give in a West Ham shirt.
“The Premier League is the pinnacle of a footballer’s dreams,” he added. “I feel good enough that I can still play a little bit here.”

Hammers planning January swoop
West Ham are looking to bolster their squad to continue their impressive form behind January. As such, they are interested in Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.
Perisic has been a top player for Inter since joining from Wolfsburg in 2015.
Although, the Croatian’s contract is coming to an end at the end of the season. As such, the Hammers could complete a cut-price transfer.
With the financial difficulties Inter are enduring, a deal for the winger could prove simple for West Ham to pull off.
