West Ham target Charles De Ketelaere could break a record and become the most expensive outgoing transfer in Belgian football history according to one reporter.

West Ham were linked with the Belgian forward earlier in the week via Calciomercato. A transfer for De Ketelaere could apparently warrant a Belgian record transfer fee of £22m, per Belgian journalist Mo Messoudi (via West Ham Zone).

“For me, De Ketelaere is the most valuable player in Belgium at the moment. I am sure he will break the outgoing transfer record set by Jeremy Doku,” he said.

“Club Brugge used him smartly last season, and he did not burn out. They allowed him to rest at the right time and put him on the bench. Now, De Ketelaere is reaping the benefits.”

Indeed, the forward is beginning to show what he is made of. He has already surpassed his highest league goals tally this season, just 11 games in.

De Ketelaere has already made two appearances for Belgium, and bagged a goal against Italy in the Nations League recently.

Clearly, the Belgian’s career is on an upwards trajectory, and at just 20 years of age, he surely has many great years ahead.

David Moyes’ side have made a habit of pulling off wonders in the market from the continent. Indeed, Czech Republic pair Vladimir Coufal and Tomas Soucek have shone since arriving.

Spurs and West Ham will reportedly battle in the summer for England U21 goalkeeper Etienne Green, with more updates on Lorenzo Insigne and Declan Rice.

As such, it seems as if the signing of De Ketelaere, who is valued at £22m, could be a risk that is worth taking.

If he were to impress, the Hammers would have a star for years to come. Furthermore, Belgian talent seldom fails to come good in the Premier League.

He has also been linked with Liverpool and Man Utd, and more recently Everton.

The Hammers are looking good in the Premier League this season and currently sit in ninth position after seven games.

However, they have conceded 10 goals already this season, and as such are monitoring young goalkeeper Etienne Green.

Green has become the number one goalkeeper at Saint-Etienne this season, and recently switched allegiances from France to England.

West Ham are hoping he also makes that switch in his club career. They like Green’s potential, though it seems they will be rivalled by Tottenham for the goalkeeper’s signature.
