Major West Ham stumbling block with injury to star player Jarrod Bowen ‘worse than first thought’

West Ham have been handed a further set back, with the injury suffered by star man Jarrod Bowen reportedly worse than initially thought.

The Hammers have been in good form in a number of competitions this season. Indeed, they have been battling for a top-four spot in the Premier League for much of the campaign.

Furthermore, David Moyes’ side knocked serial Europa League winners Sevilla out of the tournament last week. The Hammers advanced to the next round with a 2-1 victory on aggregate.

For much of the season, West Ham have been aided by the top form of star player Bowen. Indeed, the 25-year-old has had a breakout season, bagging 12 goals and nine assists in all competitions, making him the Hammers’ top scorer.

However, the east London outfit were dealt a blow during the 1-0 loss to Liverpool at the beginning of the month. Bowen was injured during that game, and had to be helped off the field.

It was thought that the winger would only miss the Europa League round of 16 first leg and last weekend’s Premier League game against Aston Villa. He has, however, already missed an extra two games since then.

What’s more, a report from The Athletic via football.london claims that Bowen’s injury is worse than first imagined.

It states that the star faces a race against time to be available for the next round of the Europa League on April 7th.

Having Bowen unavailable for the next round would be a massive blow. Of course, Moyes would want all of his most influential assets to be at his disposal for such a big game.

As such, the Hammers will have to hope he recovers in time, or they will face the quarter-finals without their star man.

Hammers missing Bowen

West Ham were beaten 3-1 by Tottenham at the weekend, with Bowen not in the side. Moyes bemoaned his side’s defending for one of Spurs’ goals.

“I have to give the players huge credit for hanging in and getting back to 2-1 and then we give away an under-12s goal for the last goal when it should have been us, maybe, getting an attempt, you would hope, in the last minute or two,” he said.

“It’s disappointing but they’ve had a great week and put in brilliant efforts all week so I can’t complain.”

Moyes will hope his side can get back to winning ways soon. They have now slipped down to seventh place in the Premier League, after having been in the battle for top four for much of the season.

The return of Bowen, whenever that may be, will surely give the side a boost.
