West Ham ready to make Jarrod Bowen club’s top earner, as rivals circle for winger

Jarrod Bowen, West Ham, April 2022.

West Ham are preparing to offer Jarrod Bowen a new contract that could well make him the club’s top earner.

Bowen was a shrewd acquisition by David Moyes in January 2020. The Hammers paid £20m-plus for the Hull City star after he blasted 16 goals for the Tigers. He penned a five-and-a-half-year contract at the London Stadium, but he is in line for a new deal.

The striker’s brace in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City helped ensure West Ham will enjoy another season of European football. He has also become the first Hammer since Paolo Di Canio to reach double digits in both goals and assists in a Premier League season.

His tally sits at 12 goals and 12 assists from 35 league games and the Daily Mail report the Hammers want to reward that form.

Bowen is believed to be on between £60,000 and £80,000 a week and West Ham want to double that. His new deal could well top the £125,000 that is paid to Kurt Zouma.

Zouma is the club’s top earner, although any new deal for Declan Rice will hit the £200,000 a week mark.

Bowen’s value has soared since arriving in the capital. And West Ham’s gamble has paid off handsomely. He looks likely to be called up to the England squad for June’s Nations League games.

He was robbed of a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad in March due to a heel problem.

Jarrod Bowen deserves his pay day

The forward remains under contract until 2025, but there has been interest in him.

90min have reported that Liverpool are long-term admirers of Bowen and will make a move for him this summer. The same outlet also claim Newcastle want the Leominster-born player.

Reports from Spain have also suggested that Manchester United may make an attempt to sign him.

It’s that interest that may well have jolted West Ham into life. As per the report, Moyes has given the new deal his blessing and in February he said: “He has stepped up when we needed him, his goals and assists have been great.”

Bowen has proved he can make his mark in the Premier League after a number of clubs passed on him.

West Ham though were bold and their bravery has paid dividends. And now it’s time to repay Bowen before he is lured away this summer by a bigger contract offer.
