West Ham out ahead for Keane Lewis-Potter as two sides suffer setbacks in star pursuit

Keane Lewis-Potter of Hull

West Ham appear to be out in front in the pursuit of Hull City star Keane Lewis-Potter, as Brentford and Watford have reportedly had bids rejected.

Lewis-Potter has been one of Hull’s most important assets over the past couple of seasons. While he is just 21 years old, he has broken through massively recently.

The youngster notched 13 goals and provided six assists in League One two seasons ago. While a step up may have proven daunting for some, the star took it in his stride.

Lewis-Potter notched 12 goals last season in the Championship, as well as providing four assists.

Indeed, the winger appears to be progressing at a rate of knots. While Hull finished 19th in the Championship last season, his performances were far superior to the rest of the side.

The next best goals tally after his 13 were George Honeyman, Ryan Longman and Tom Eaves, each with five.

It appears that Lewis-Potter is a big fish in a small pond. However, he may be given the opportunity to impress in the top flight before long.

Multiple Premier League sides are vying to give him the chance at top-flight football.

However, one side in particular seems to be in the lead for the youngster’s signature. 90min reports that West Ham are out in front in pursuit of Lewis-Potter.

They are above Premier League rivals Brentford, and recently-relegated Watford. That pair have reportedly had approaches for the Hull star rebuffed, and West Ham may be soon to make their own move.

Lewis-Potter move may be risky

While Lewis-Potter has starred for Hull over the past couple of seasons, a move to the Premier league could be a risk.

The youngster has played just one season of Championship football, and is already being touted for a move to the Premier League. Granted, he had a good season last term, but has not shown his quality consistently.

What’s more, he may not be ready for the jump, at just 21 years of age. Should he move and not be ready, he could damage his future potential.

With that being said, Dele Alli moved from League One MK Dons to Tottenham in 2015, and had an immediate impact in the Premier League, contributing to 19 goals.

As such, it is a transfer that could go either way, and finding out whether or not it is a positive one can only happen if it happens.

David Moyes has shown he knows when to give somebody a chance after signing them from the second tier. Both Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma have impressed during their time with the Hammers, though neither were thrust into action too soon, so Lewis-Potter would be in safe hands at West Ham.
