West Ham have record-breaking bid accepted for attacking target, as Moyes eyes another signing straight after
Lucas Paqueta has moved a step closer to becoming a West Ham United player after the Premier League side saw a bid accepted by Lyon, according to reports.
West Ham have been working on the signing of Paqueta in recent days. They have identified him as the attacking midfielder with whom they can go forward. However, he has proven to be an expensive target.
David Moyes recently confirmed a bid had gone in for the Brazilian. However, reports soon emerged that West Ham had been unsuccessful with their first attempt to take him.
Now, though, they appear to have reached a breakthrough with a new offer. According to talkSPORT, they have now agreed a deal to sign Paqueta.
Lyon have accepted an offer worth up to €60million (£50.8million), which will be a club-record investment for West Ham.
In turn, a five-year contract will be on offer to Paqueta at the London Stadium. There is no mention yet of the arrangement of a medical, but the radio station claims he is ‘set to sign’ the agreement.
Should all go to plan for West Ham, they will be beating off widespread competition for Paqueta’s signature. After 21 goals and 14 assists from 80 games for Lyon, he has caught the attention of many clubs, particularly in the Premier League.
West Ham are about to win the race for him, so it seems. After coming up against him in the Europa League last season, they will now give him the chance to compete in the Conference League as a member of their squad.
And given the funds being invested in him, Paqueta will be expected to play a major role for Moyes’ side.
Moyes favourite could follow Lucas Paqueta
In addition, the report from talkSPORT adds that Moyes is also hoping to sign another attacking midfielder, Adnan Januzaj.
After previously working with the winger at Manchester United and Sunderland, Moyes could consider a reunion. Januzaj is currently a free agent after leaving Real Sociedad in the summer.
Talks are apparently underway with his entourage over a potential free transfer. Still only 27 years old, the hope would be that Januzaj has something to give in the Premier League again.
It could cap off a busy summer for West Ham, during which they have also signed Nayef Aguerd, Alphonse Areola, Flynn Downes, Gianluca Scamacca, Maxwel Cornet, Thilo Kehrer and Emerson Palmieri.
