West Ham star primed for monumental battle with Man Utd and Arsenal

West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is up for the fight in the race for fourth spot and reckons the battle with the likes of Man Utd and Arsenal will go down to the wire.

The Hammers have been on an upwards trajectory for the past few seasons. Following a disappointing 16th-placed finish in 2019/20, they finished sixth last season.

They have been battling for the top four for much of this season. They are currently in fifth, and have a fantastic shot of securing Champions League football.

Fabianski feels the Hammers are giving themselves the best shot at doing just that, though is fully aware of the task they face.

Indeed, after last weekend’s results, it’s looking like Man Utd and Arsenal will be thw two main challengers for fourth. However, Tottenham also cannot be discounted after thumping Leeds 4-0.

“I think what we want to do is basically stay in the mix and do our best, to give ourselves the chance to compete for the highest possible position in the table,” he said, quoted by Jersey Evening Post.

“That’s our aim – to be very competitive until the last day of the Premier League.”

Indeed, being in as good a position as possible when it gets to crunch time is crucial, something Fabianski touched on.

“I think if you look at the history of the Premier League it always goes to the last day of the season,” he said.

West Ham’s objective was laid out very clearly by Fabianski.

“We need to win in the next 12 games and we will continue to do our job. A good season until now and we need to fight from now until the end of the Premier League,” he added.

Fabianski and Soucek were on form last game

While Fabianski kept a clean sheet last game, Tomas Soucek was the scorer of the only goal. Moyes praised the Czech midfielder for his top performances in a West Ham shirt.

“He was really good, he got himself more chances and the goalkeeper made a good save from him in the first half. I thought he did a good job for the team,” he said.

“His standards have been set so high, he has hardly put a foot wrong.”

The performances of Soucek and the rest of the squad will be crucial in fighting for a top-four finish.
