Sky Sports insider claims West Ham close to massive £51m deal with medical slated for Sunday

Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta is reportedly a step closer to completing a big-money move to West Ham with his medical scheduled to take place on Sunday.

The Brazilian playmaker is expected to arrive in the UK on Saturday before undergoing his medical and signing on the dotted line, according to Sky Sports transfer insider Dharmesh Sheth.

It is understood that the transfer could rise to as much as £51million, making Paqueta the record Hammers signing.

Sheth wrote, via Twitter: “Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta to have medical tomorrow ahead of move to West Ham United. Paqueta expected to fly in to the UK tonight. Deal is worth €60m. Initial fee is €43m + €17m in add-ons.”

Paqueta has been the subject of late interest from Tottenham. However, it looks like the Hammers have beaten their London rivals to the punch.

David Moyes has already added attacked-minded new recruits in the form of Gianluca Scamacca and Maxwel Cornet but is now on the brink of landing Paqueta as well.

And the West Ham boss admits he’s been left surprised by the club’s summer business.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash with Aston Villa, the Scot said: “We brought in more than I wanted.

“We needed to try and move on, break up what we had, we’re trying to build another good team. I’m not sure we will do more.”

That would appear to rule out a deal for Paqueta, although Sky Sports clearly think differently.

The Brazilian scored 11 goals and added seven assists in 44 appearances in all competitions last season. He has played twice this season without notching any goal involvements.
