West Ham transfer news: Tomas Soucek up for shock sale as David Moyes ‘tension’ boils over
West Ham are reportedly ready to sell midfielder Tomas Soucek amid a bust-up with David Moyes overshadowing his importance to the team.
The Czech Republic international has proved an unmissable figure following his 2020 arrival. He initially arrived on loan from Slavia Prague but impressed and earned a long-term deal.
And after 13 Premier League appearances in 2019/20, he has subsequently made another 92 since then. Indeed, he played in all of West Ham’s 41 games last season.
This term, meanwhile, Soucek missed only three league matches. The 27-year-old’s contract has therefore become a key priority for the Hammers to resolve.
However, reports in April claimed that manager Moyes does not feel Soucek is worthy of fresh terms just yet. That decision reportedly let the midfielder feeling ‘undermined’ and ‘surprised’ others at the club.
Now, though, the latest from Football Insider is that relations between Moyes and Soucek have deteriorated further.
The report claims there is ‘tension’ at the club between the pair following a falling-out.
As a result, West Ham are now ready to sell Soucek, with the ill feeling between him and the manager potentially affecting the dressing room and on-field performances next season if it drags on.
West Ham could look to sell him this summer as he would attract the biggest fee.
Indeed, he would enter the final year of his deal next summer and so clubs would then look to take advantage of the Hammers realising they could lose him for free in 2024.
While Soucek plays mostly in a defensive midfield role, he proved key in attack this season.
The 48-cap international scored five Premier League goals and also netted once in the Europa League to help the Hammers into the semi-finals.
Soucek developments worrying for West Ham
The reported developments over Soucek are worrying for West Ham, especially amid the ongoing uncertainty over Declan Rice’s contract.
Rice’s deal also expires in 2024, although the club have a one-year extension option on him.
Nevertheless, he has reportedly rejected a mammoth new eight-year deal and could soon look to take a step up in his career, either this summer or next.
West Ham offer 3 players big new contracts
West Ham are offering Jarrod Bowen, Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek new contracts but who will sign?
If Soucek follows him out the door – or the other way around at this rate – it would decimate the Hammers’ ranks as they would be hard to replace – at least straight away.
Soucek and Rice have led West Ham to sixth and seventh-placed finishes in the Premier League. They have been vital in Europe for the club too.
Losing one of those players would hurt, but losing both would do more damage.
