West Ham are reportedly planning a triple swoop on Burnley, with Josh Brownhill among the players wanted at the London Stadium.
Burnley look set to lose several players this summer after their relegation from the Premier League. Some stars who feel they are Premier League quality will not want to stick around in the Championship.
Top-flight teams can pounce on the situation by launching relatively cheap moves for some of the Clarets’ biggest names.
Burnley have already lost influential defender James Tarkowski. The Englishman is eligible to move on a free transfer after opting not to extend his contract at Turf Moor.
Everton hold an interest in Tarkowski, although they could yet be beaten to his signature.
According to West Ham Zone, who cite ExWHUemployee, David Moyes’ side are looking into a raid on Burnley.
They will soon hold discussions with the Clarets over Brownhill’s availability. The central midfielder has plenty of Premier League experience and made 35 appearances in the competition last term.
Josh Brownhill price tag surprisingly high
However, Burnley seem to be holding firm on Brownhill. The report claims they want £20million for him, despite their relegation and the fact transfermarkt value him at just £6.3m.
West Ham will undoubtedly want to negotiate this price down as the 26-year-old clearly isn’t worth this much.
Brownhill isn’t the only player who may end up in east London this summer. ExWHUemployee states the Irons will also ask Burnley about possible moves for attackers Maxwel Cornet and Dwight McNeil.
Cornet put in some impressive displays for Burnley after joining from Lyon in August 2021. He has too much quality to play in the second tier and will therefore like the idea of moving to West Ham.
They will have to spend more on Cornet than Brownhill as the former is seen as one of Burnley’s best players. He was their top scorer in 2021-22, finding the net nine times in 28 outings.
McNeil had a poor season compared with previous campaigns. Despite this, the winger’s ability is obvious and West Ham coaches will believe they can get him back to his best.
Like Cornet, McNeil will come with a hefty price tag. So plenty of transfer talks will be required before the Irons can agree a deal.
West Ham are unlikely to have the funds to sign all three stars in one window. However, they are showing good ambition by enquiring about the trio.
The most likely scenario is for West Ham to sign one of the three players. This will depend on which position they feel needs strengthening the most.
