Julen Lopetegui makes audacious Wolves swoop for PSG star with offer ‘on the table’

Wolverhampton Wanderers could complete a shock move for a Paris Saint-Germain player, with manager Julen Lopetegui busy trying to improve his squad.

Wolves are in serious danger of being relegated to the Championship this season. They sit in 19th place, having won just three times in 18 matches so far. They also have the worst attacking record in the Premier League this term, with just 11 goals scored.

Wolves’ poor form cost Bruno Lage his job in early October. The club then announced Lopetegui as his successor just over a month later.

Wolves have looked a bit more sturdy since Lopetegui’s arrival. And they picked up a big win against Everton on Boxing Day. They also drew 1-1 with Aston Villa in their last Premier League outing, before two cup matches followed.

Wolves drew 2-2 with Liverpool in the FA Cup to take their third-round tie to a replay. And on Wednesday night they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on penalties by Nottingham Forest.

Lopetegui is busy hunting January signings to give his team a better chance at Prem survival and to help their FA Cup aspirations.

The club have signed Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha on loan from Atletico Madrid with the obligation to buy. As per The Guardian, he will cost £44million when joining the Molineux outfit on a permanent basis this summer.

And Lopetegui is not stopping there. He is reportedly chasing a double deal for West Ham centre-half Craig Dawson and Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Wolves hoping to land Ligue 1 forward

And now, Spanish newspaper AS have suggested Wolves could complete a transfer coup by landing Pablo Sarabia from Paris Saint-Germain.

Their report claims Wolves have put an offer ‘on the table’ for the winger, who can operate on either flank or at central attacking midfield.

It is not revealed exactly how much the bid is worth. But it has apparently given PSG the chance to make back most of the €20million they paid Sevilla to sign him in July 2019.

Wolves are hoping the proposal will be enough to reach an agreement with PSG. They are currently awaiting a response from the Ligue 1 giants.

PSG must now decide whether Sarabia is needed in Christophe Galtier’s squad. He does not start too often at the Parc des Princes, as shown by him being yet to complete a full 90 minutes in the league this term.

PSG may reject opening Sarabia bid

However, the Spaniard is still a ‘very loved player’ at PSG as he fits in well in the dressing room, and Galtier likes bringing him off the bench to impact matches.

As such, there is a chance PSG could reject Wolves’ initial bid for Sarabia and request more money.

Wanderers will be willing to up their bid, but they will not want to spend a huge amount when signing him. Doing this could affect their chances of capturing Dawson and Wan-Bissaka.

It would be great for Wolves if Lopetegui could bring Sarabia in. The 30-year-old is a highly creative attacker with experience at the top level. He has won trophies at both Sporting Lisbon and PSG, while also representing the Spain national team on 26 occasions.

Sarabia would arrive at Molineux to compete with the likes of Daniel Podence and Adama Traore for a starting spot on the right flank. But given his great credentials, he should probably go straight into the starting eleven.

Meanwhile, Dawson is not the only West Ham player Wolves want as they are also chasing a striker’s signature, according to reports.
