Man Utd, Newcastle moves for attacker to impact Wolves, with Molineux star viewed as successor

Wolves will receive interest in one of their forwards if either Manchester United or Newcastle get hold of Marcus Thuram, according to a report.
With Thuram coming towards the end of his Borussia Monchengladbach contract, interest from the Premier League in his signature is starting to heat up. Man Utd and Newcastle are the two main clubs to have been linked with him, but Arsenal and Tottenham are apparently keeping tabs on the situation too.
TEAMtalk’s transfer insider, Graeme Bailey, says Newcastle will use some of their huge financial power to rival Man Utd for Thuram. And a January move to England looks likely, with Gladbach set to cash in on the Frenchman while they still can.
“Another forward to play on the left is very much an option [for Newcastle],” Bailey told TEAMtalk. “They loved Jack Harrison in the summer, but his price was way above their valuation. They could increase their offer, but only if he rounds into form.
“Moussa Diaby, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Christian Pulisic we know are other players Newcastle have looked closely at. But the emergence of interest of Marcus Thuram is not a shock.
“I am told that Borussia Monchengladbach are ready to sell the French star in January, they don’t want to lose him for nothing in the summer which looks increasingly likely.
“We need to remember that Gladbach had a similar situation with Denis Zakaria just 12 months ago, and they sold him before he could leave on a free and I expect the same could happen with Thuram. I would not rule Newcastle out.”
Gladbach could pick up a decent fee for Thuram, even if his contract is running down. Erik ten Hag needs a new striker at Man Utd and this could see a bidding war begin with Newcastle.
Wolves wary of German interest in forward
Wherever Thuram goes, Gladbach will be in need of a replacement. And it seems they could go after a Wolves attacker.
According to Sport Witness, who cite German source Bild, Gladbach are monitoring Wolves’ Hwang Hee-chan as a potential transfer target.
The 26-year-old is considered a player who ‘would fit’ Gladbach’s system. Should he move to the German club, he would go straight into the starting eleven as Thuram’s successor up front.
Wolves apparently value Hwang at €12million (currently £10.3m). Gladbach would only be able to match this sum if they got a good fee for Thuram.
Hwang hasn’t exactly set the Premier League alight since moving to Molineux, initially on loan, in August 2021. His record for Wanderers stands at just five goals in 44 outings.
But perhaps Gladbach see Hwang as a hidden gem. If they can get him in a better system and playing to his best, he might be able to improve his scoring record hugely.
Hwang isn’t the only player Gladbach are looking at, should Thuram move on. They also like the look of Croatia U21 starlet Dion Drena Beljo. But as he is just 20 years old, South Korea international Hwang would be a more experienced option.
Meanwhile, Man Utd have been shown exactly why they need to beat Liverpool to the signing of a Dutch star following his top World Cup performance.
