Wolves resistance could finally break with Arsenal, Man Utd sizing up star man

Ruben Neves, Raul Jimenez, Wolves, February 2022.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke thinks Wolves may face a ‘hard battle’ in their bid to keep star midfielder Ruben Neves at the club for much longer.

Neves has been a mainstay of the Wolves side since he joined the club in 2017. The midfielder was quality in the Championship, and continued his form in the top flight.

Neves has scored 14 Premier League goals from midfield in the Premier League. Indeed, three of those goals have come this season.

He has been consistent since he became a Premier League footballer. Furthermore, the Portuguese has been the subject of interest from the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal.

In fact, Wolves may find it tough to keep hold of him for much longer, according to journalist O’Rourke.

“I think this summer, it could be a hard battle to keep hold of Neves,” he told GIVEMESPORT.

It is likely that the interest from big sides will remain, given Neves’ quality.

“Wolves won’t want to hear this because they would love to keep Ruben Neves,” he added.

Of course, Wolves would love for Neves to remain at the club. He has been one of their most crucial players for the past few seasons.

However, he is reaching a point where he may be better suited at a big side, with Wolves not having finished above seventh since their return to the Premier League.

The article cites a prior report from the Sun that stated Wolves would’ve considered a Neves exit had £45m been bid in January.

Also mentioned is the past interest of Man Utd and Arsenal, with both clubs expected to be hunting reinforcements in central midfield next summer.

In other news, Wolves lost against West Ham last time out. Manager Bruno Lage has attempted to inspire his players to get back to winning ways.

“When you look for the game, the way we played against a strong team and a manger with experience away from home – in the middle of February, we have 40 points, we put our fans to dream about the Champions League,” he said.

“The next three months we need to continue to play the same way, grow up and fight for every point until the end of the season.”

Indeed, his players will want to show the same fight that Lage has described. However, a poor league finish could be enough to force the likes of Neves to look elsewhere.
