    Wiltspur,

Agree with almost of your post on Enic, and you’re entirely correct in your assertion that whilst the likes of myself continually harp on about the last five or six years of no spend, that doesn’t tell the whole Enic story. In fact whilst we have net sales of more than 40 million quid over the last five years, we did indeed record a net spend of 131million over the previous eight years. So in essence you’re absolutely right. Enic have indeed not always been so frugal. Of course it’s worth noting that in the eight years of net spend the Club made significant progress…14th in the league to CL qualification, and that in the subsequent years of no net spend we’ve failed to push on. That’s really the point that we’re trying to make. Net spend equals progress…net sales equals stagnation…at best. Not rocket science. Am I happier being stagnated around fifth or sixth than I would have been stagnating around fourteenth or fifteenth, of course, but that’s somewhat beside the point isn’t it? ‘Audere facere’ and all that good stuff init. Anyway let’s hope that the decent start to the season continues and that we can all pay a little more attention to the trophy cabinet, and a little less to the Boardroom. Cheers Bloggs.

    TK,

Agree entirely with your sentiment that it’s less about the money and more about the player, but given that all Clubs make mistakes in the transfer market, don’t you think it’s unrealistic to expect not to have to spend something over and above what you bring in by way of player sales at least occasionally? Isn’t that why just about every club in the Premiership…and indeed the Championship, accept that a no net spend policy is unworkable other than occasionally.

As to the change of name…you couldn’t have picked a better one my friend. Cheers Bloggs.

    Wiltspur,

It would be great if Poch can get us a top four finish with this group of kids. I think every Spurs fan in the world would choose that as their preferred route into the CL.

However it might just be that he does a great job and gets us somewhere near it…fifth last season…but needs a little investment to get us over the line. In such circumstances are you confident that he will get the backing of the Board, given their track record over the last five or six years? Truth is my friend that if we’re gonna have to wait until the stadiums buit and paid for, to spend any money, then we’re all gonna be old men…(Some of us already are)…Cheers Bloggs.

Hi Wiltspur. Nice post on big MJ mate. Came within a whisker of achieving CL qualification with, as you say, an inferior bunch of players to that with which Harry was blessed. The last manager to over achieve at Tottenham? Cheers Bloggs.

Hi TK. Very noble of you to jump to my defence. You sound a lot like GJ from the previous forum. Is that the case?

You know it’s not rocket science to work out that Welshyid is hoping, by way of a gratuitous insulting post, to provoke a reaction, to which he can latch onto in order to get himself noticed on the page. It’s the same old same old. Not going to happen. I’m afraid he’ll have to generate interest in his own posts and ideas. In the meantime I’ll try to come up with something entertaining of my own…perhaps a link to a Filipino dating site to give everyone a laugh. Cheers Bloggs.

Hi Scoffy. Thanks for the welcome mate. I recently read Zero’s excellent post under the Poch haters thread, and the facts and figures he quoted quite surprised me. On that basis it seems there is enough about Poch to at least reserve judgement on him, in spite of the deadly dull style of football he seems determined to inflict upon us. Seems your optimism might be well justified…We shall see eh? Agree regarding the use of just this thread for posting but still find the whole experience of the new forum disappointing. Old age is a curse I guess!

TK. Good summary mate but I think you might be hoping for a bit too much with your anti ENIC time frame…The spring is a long way off! Cheers guys. Bloggs.

Hi Gus. Nobody notified me by email I’m afraid mate. Like everybody else I guess, I just checked in a week or two ago and was suitably underwhelmed by the whole thing. Thought long and hard whether I wanted to support the page in it’s new format and eventually decided that it was better to give it a go than to lose touch with posters who I’ve enjoyed the craic with for so long. Incidentally I loved your debate with yourself. First time I’ve seen you win an argument!

Sota. How embarrassing is that eh? How sad am I? Happily chattering away on twitter…which, incidentally, I really don’t get at all…With someone who I thought was you for the last couple of weeks. I really shouldn’t be allowed out on my own you know! Regarding managers I’d agree that big Martin was the last guy I really had any time for, but things move on and we can’t live in the past my friend. Certainly the style and quality of football currently on display doesn’t compare in any way with that of the Harry era but we both know that it’s difficult…no impossible, to progress whilst continually flogging off your best players. As to star players to get excited about, I think Eriksen is the real deal. Yes a bit in and out at the moment but, for me, an absolute game changer. Enjoy him whilst we can…I’ve no doubt Slippery has an eye on his resale value even as we speak. Cheers Bloggs.

Hi Gus. Thanks for your reply. Hopefully it’s a case of progress on our part rather than simply the failings of others. To be honest it’s a bit early to say eh? Still its all very encouraging. As you say it would be nice to have more of the old regulars back if for no other reason than to prevent you from talking to yourself!!

To that end Wiltspur I’m gonna give the prediction league an airing. You’re right in that it promoted banter amongst many on the old forum…I think we had over sixty participants…and whilst this new forum has its faults, it is perfectly set up to run a thread dedicated to predictions without upsetting those who choose not to take part. What have we got to lose, this page is dying on its feet anyway? Maybe some of the old guys will sign up for what is at the end of the day a bit of nonsense eh? I’ll start a new thread shortly. Worse way I’ll end up looking like a twat with my knob out…nothing new there then…Cheers Bloggs.

Hi Gus. I trust you are well my friend. Good to hear that you’re warming to the manager. I have to admit that I’m in the Sota camp on this one. By no means convinced just yet, but happy to be proven wrong. I think Wiltspur makes a worthwhile point in that our feelings toward Poch should be somewhat tempered by the fact that he is trying to succeed in spite of Levy. Not an easy thing to do as the last five or six appointments have born testimony to.
Scoffy I love your optimism! Win the league?? Have you been on the Crespur juice? Not a bad rewrite of our motto tho my friend…”To dare to dream…to do” I’ll have to look up the Latin translation for that one.
Sota I see from your twitter account that you considered dropping Harry from your fantasy football team…just before his hat trick. Astute as ever eh? 🙂 Hopefully Sunday’s game will prove to be a spring board for the lads season to kick on, particularly given our reliance on him.
Riddler mate, it’s nice to see you back under your original moniker. What are your thoughts on Lamella, or Lame Ella as you’d have it? Seems most on the page see some improvement in his performances. Personally I can’t. Seems like the same lumbering, clumsy waste of 30million quid to me. But hey, what do I know?
Nice to see some old friends from the previous incarnation on the new forum. The likes of Crespur, Hodd, TKO, Wellsini, Macam, Misery, Ricky, Vin, Sands, Aitch and Spud…typical of you to be the first poster Spud…and many others. Hopefully together we can make something of this forum and encourage a few more absent friends to contribute. Cheers guys. Bloggs.
