Players finding form and clicking (Odegaard in particular looks out of form currently)
    Jesus staying fit.
Working on tactics of playing against deep lying teams
Switching the ball quicker when players double up on both Saka and Martinelli.
    Getting Partey and ESR fit.

Jeff, I think defensively we’ve been really solid (helped a lot by Rice) but I think the forward play needs improving and I think it will.

I have only been to a couple of games this season and yes I thought the atmosphere was a bit flat, but again once the forward play improves, so will the atmosphere

Jeff, I don’t disagree with most of what you say and yes Havertz for £60m seems to be a completely waste of money.

How good would Rice and Xhaka be together???

However you really do appear to be a glass half empty. I think even you will
admit, this team has the potential to get better? And if they do (appreciate it’s an if!) surely we have a great chance of winning the league.

Steve68 completely agree with you, Rice and Saliba have been top class and a long injury to either of those would admittedly really hurt us

I agree with you Muffer. A mistake with Ramsdale and Raya, and £60m on Hav – of course s going to give him every chance to build his confindence up, as cringeworthy as it may be. However, no managers perfect and I think what he’s got right far outweighs the mistakes and none of them in my view are fatal.

And, without full confidence and Artetas dilly dalling we’re top of the league. So if we improve (which I think we will) and we’ve got a great chance of winning the league. We shall see!

The difference is Muffler, last year we were top playing amazingly well, this year we’re top with obvious room for improvement. It’s not guaranteed of course, but I think we will get better as the season progresses. Last year we ran out of steam.

The Ramsdale situation is a real shame, especially how well he did last but Arteta clearly felt the goalkeeper position could be improved.

I don’t believe Raya is much of an upgrade, and I think Artetas created an unnecessary problem – that said, I don’t think Rayas any worse, so an unnecessary change but not ones that’s going to hurt us.

Top of the league … and not playing at our best.

Reasons to be cheerful, we have a great chance of winning the league this year!

What a ridiculous title to a thread.

There’s always got to be a scapegoat hasn’t there? Of course Holding is not at the level of Saliba, but who is this season?

Yes undoubtedly Saliba has been a big miss , but I don’t think you’re going to be able to get a much better back up (arguably 3rd choice) than Holding, who after coming in after months without playing has been largely solid.

Kiwior has played because he is left footed and back up for Gabriel!

And what the fuck is wrong with playing the guitar? It’s not a reason to keep him but god the stones folk use to throw…

I don’t think my nerves can take too many more games like that!

Having been 2-0 up and cruising a draw is a f’
disappoint but we very easily could have lost and we have Ramsdale to thank for keeping us in it.

Arteta has got a lot things right this season but I agree he got his subs wrong yesterday. Tierney should have been on sooner and taking Ode off for Kiwior didn’t work at all.

How anyone can blame Xhaka is a bit beyond me. Yes, he shouldn’t have got involved but to say that lost is the game is a bit of a stretch. It’s Anfield the ground are going to perk up at some point. It’s their goal before half time that turned the game and that was sloppy from us. still we rode our luck 2nd half, so really should be satisfied with the point.

This is a vitally important game but if we are to win the league all next games will be! A lot of pressure on the players.

I think the starting 11 has to stay the same I am just praying we can get ESR and Jesus back in the not too decent future to freshen the team up. Let’s hope for a win and a good performance to set us up for city. However anyway we can get 3 points will do!

    Merry Christmas all.

I really enjoyed that and it was so important to get a win. Really pleased Nketiah scored, hopefully he’ll do well.

Great to see Wenger in the stands too.

Odegaard looks an absolute bargain. And you think Arteta persuaded him and Jesus (also a bargain) to sign, but that’s only your opinion for all you know Edu may have played a key role in both.

We were written off to get into top four by most so if we do that (let alone winning the league) Edu and Arteta both deserve credit.

TSO he was instrumental in being in Martinelli. And what about the likes of Odegaard and Jesus, were they not good signings?

I don’t know what it really means? it seems he will have more control over how the academy etc is run but looks just like a fancy title to me.

Still, I think he’s done a good job and he seems to work well with Arteta and I don’t think it will change that so I am all for it. Continuity is a good thing.

What do you reckon Special One? 🤣

Top at Christmas is not something anyone would have predicted and most wrote top 4 off and I am really pleased. Pleased that we are also not only winning but playing great football.

However, another 3 points needed tonight and although Wolves have struggled it’s never an easy game against them. I am looking forward to it though!

I much preferred it when in the early Wenger years it was the kids that played rather than those not good enough for the 1st team. Even the bench never had any of the 1st team on it.

Maybe it’s because squads are bigger now but I’d rather not have any of the 1st team in the squad at all for the league cup. Wouldn’t it be better to see the stars of the academy given a chance to play? It would certainly be more interesting I think!

The fact the game was not broadcast anywhere in the world probably show how important it was. I just hope we don’t lose momentum for Wolves next week. It would be ace to be too at Christmas!

    What a brilliant performance.

Arteta tatics spot on, Saliba Partey and Xhaka were outstanding.

Jesus desperately needs a goal but I am convinced it will come.

Beat Wolves and we’ll be top at Christmas and although it will be difficult surely everyone has to think we have a chance of winning it?

It’s going to be a really tough one this.

Tierney deserves to start but I wonder if fit Zinchecko will get the nod. Otherwise bar injury the team picks itself.

I think a draw would be a good result but if we were to win it would be a hell of a statement. Could go either way – I am excitingly nervous !

Poor performance and we rod our luck but another 3 points!

4 points clear , I really wish the city game wasn’t postponed as I reckon no would be a good time to play them.
