It’s a shame we didn’t take the 3 points. Could be crucial in the title race. But especially with the injuries we’ve got, that was a great performance.

When the league resumes again, City play Arsenal on 31st March. Perfect time for that game to come along.

It will be an interesting end to the season, and despite the dropped points we are in a pretty good position right now.

I have no idea how we managed to come through this period of games and injuries, while still winning all our games.

    This is phenomenal.

I really expected a banana skin tonight, but so happy to win. Grinding out the results even when you play bad is so important.

Hahaha, I take it bort is a Chelsea fan. Poor guy.

Endo has probably surprised a few people, who underestimated him because of the low price tag.
Just shows money isn’t everything, he seems to be quite settled now, and easily outperformed Chelsea’s 200m midfield duo.

Even though we were forced into it, I’m glad we put so many young players out. I’ve never seen such a young team in a cup final. Makes the win that bit more special.

    Really satisfying.

    What a football club.

    Incredible scenes

That’s interesting, they must have a really good structure behind the scenes. Probably will plenty money going in.

It will be a strange situation if both Girona and City qualify for the CL. And that seems quite likely, at the moment.

Top of the table clash in Spain this weekend, between Real Madrid and Girona.

Girona, who’s whole squad was put together for less money than Bellingham, are only in their second season in La Liga since being promoted, yet sit 2 points off first, with more goals scored than any other team.

It’s nice to see footballs status quo being challenged from time to time.

Sure, it wasn’t a great performance, with the exception of MacAllister. But we weren’t miles away.

Came out looking the better team in the second half, and if that freak goal hadn’t happened for 2-1, things might have gone differently.

Disappointing, but Arsenal away is a tough fixture these days. They are very solid defensively, and if you make mistakes, they will punish you. Also, as others have mentioned, we have a lot of important players missing right now.

I’m sure we will get better, as we start getting players back, and up to speed.

I still think we are a better team and will finish above Arsenal. Just have to hope City will be dropping points as well. Hopefully tomorrow.

To be fair, Grav created that goal. Lovely vision, nice touch to buy himself time and perfect weight and timing on the pass.

Criticising Alonso because he didn’t move straight back to Liverpool a year after leaving??!

Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I don’t think his playing career has much to do with the conversation about him being the next manager. Actually I think moving to Real and Bayern has been better for his development than playing at LFC under Rodgers would have been. He learned German, got to play under several of the best managers around, and racked up a long career at the highest level of European football.

But, for what is worth he gave 5 of his best years to LFC. We would never have won the European cup in 2005 without Alonso. One of our best players in modern times.

You might think he has bad character, and doesn’t really want to manage LFC. But doesn’t look like anybody else agrees with you.

So you think it would be a bad appointment for a number of reasons, even if he does win things here. Say even if he wins league titles?

    For what reasons

I don’t think Alonso would be an emotional appointment.

Far from it, he’s been arguably the best manager in the world this season, so far. Definitely in the top 3.

He’s developing and pioneering new tactics, coaching and motivating his players to the point where they’re top of the league, outperforming teams with much bigger budgets.

I would go as far to say, Alonso is showing signs of genius as a manager. I have been impressed with what a great communicator and motivator he seems to be. And clearly his tactics work too. Seems to be a top class manager in all areas and we’d be lucky to have him. I hope he will be our next manager.

    The end of an era.

Let’s hope this news galvanises the team, and gives us extra motivation to win the league this season.

Nobody has done more to elevate the club in the premier league era. Fortunately, he will leave the club in much better state than when he arrived.

Red cards have been given for less than that this season.

Referees and var, collectively making up their own interpretations of the rules. Coming up with different punishments for the same scenarios, week after week.

Didn’t even get a free kick.

Talk about hype, bigger than Messi. Come on.

He has achieved nothing. Scoring 10 goals in a single game against local schoolboys at youth team level means absolutely nothing.

At Italy U15 U16 and U17, which is still not a high level at all, he’s scored 13 in 21 games.
Quite a lot less goals per game than what Messi has at CL, La Liga and world cup level.

He’s also quite physically advanced for his age, which may account for a lot of his success at youth level. Hopefully he’ll become a good player but he’s got a long way to go before he should be on our radar.

Agreed ginger, by his own very high standards it wasn’t Alissons best day.

But the idea his kicking is a liability for the team all of a sudden, is a complete load of rubbish.

Very pleased with that result. Could be one of the most important points we take all season.

Credit where it’s due, Mac Allister put in a much more polished display in DM yesterday.

VVD deserves a mention as well, he’s in great form at the moment. Looking back to his best.

Maccas defensive stats are good, but stats don’t tell you the whole picture.

He’s just not cut out for the physical battles that he’s getting into, in that area of the pitch.
He’s lost a few important duels.

Maybe he can learn to make up for it, in other ways, but seems that he’s still adapting to the role. While he is a good player, and he’s working hard, he is not very polished as a DM.

I don’t actually agree with what most people are saying about Nunez finishing.

I think he does a lot of his attacking at a high pace, and we can’t expect him to have control when he’s doing things at speed. Like his miss tonight. He’s just run half way down the pitch at high speed, skinned the defender, beat the keeper with a burst of pace. He’s not done a whole lot wrong was just unlucky in my opinion.

Let’s take a look at the stats.

According to whoscored, this season, he’s played 559 minutes for Liverpool – scored 5 goals and assisted 4 goals.

That’s either a goal or an assist every 62 minutes.

Yeah he’s had maybe 2 or 3 big chances this season that we all talked about after the game. But that happens, and it will probably happen more to a guy who plays at such a high tempo.

He’s a good finisher, as you can see from his first finish. And his goals per minutes played is about the same as Mo.

Hopefully he will get better, but he’s already an extremely good finisher.
And no matter how much he improves he will still miss a few here and there. It does feel a bit like he misses more than some of the others but I don’t think that’s actually true. I mean, how about those two finishes against Newcastle.
For some reason, we spend too much time talking about Nunez misses.

His high tempo style will lead to moments like this, but he’s creating a lot of end product right now. I’m not complaining.

I don’t think Young should go, but if he does then Konate has to go as well.

Takes the shine off the win a bit. Everton can quite rightly complain about that. And we’d be livid if it happened against us.

Referees waving the red cards around all too easily these days.
