Forget Henderson over Drinkwater!!… The big puzzle is what Wilshire has over Woy?
He must be his secret lovechild!… Honestly 30-40 minutes football compared to a whole championship winning season, Drinkwater must be wondering what he has to do!!
Same old, same old, Woy picks some England players on who they play for rather than their current form/ability.I know money talks, and it may be a really good deal, but who else thinks the new home shirt is absolutely dreadful?
The sky blue away top is ok, but the home kit and that large white panel is hideous imo.
How come the new kits for Sunderland and, more importantly Southampton, who will be playing in Europe can still maintain their traditional red and white stripes front and back??
If I am missing something here, then I would welcome feedback! Two main reasons IMO.
Firstly losing that penalty shoot-out against Liverpool has since seemed to knock the stuffing out of our creative play and general confidence.
Secondly, I know all teams can bang on about injuries, but the absence of JB between the sticks has affected the defence so much, that it doesnt matter who plays, all cohesion and organisation has gone out of the window.
I don`t think the close season can come quick enough for the manager, players and especially the fans !First of all, Spurs were the best team ever to visit the Brit last night imo, I know we have had heavier beatings, but in the past against much weaker Stoke sides.
That aside, we just let them take control.
The biggest factor in this is obviously the injuries to key players, Butland, Shawcross and Johnson who when fully fit organise the rest of the defence.
Another reason is that our flair players look like they have already got their flip-flops on, and at times having a stroll on the beach.
I know many people wanted more creative and passing football, but at the moment we are the complete polar opposite from the TP era.
When we have been at our best this season, our play has included elements from both styles.
However it`s not all doom and gloom, and we as fans have to be careful of not raising our expectations too quickly, as we can slide into a “Charlton” mentality of a few years ago.
Also I would be more worried if I was a Chelsea, Newcastle, Villa, Everton and Sunderland fan who have all spent more than Stoke in recent years.
Onwards and upwards,!!Butland is a good shout, Mudcat, but like many other players, injury has ruled over consistency.
My personal vote would go to Whelen who, after what should only be one game out has been an unsung hero, steady and reliable rather than spectacular, but that is what has been needed during an injury plagued campaign.I agree with all that, Selby.
Having played myself in defence, you need confidence in your goalkeeper.
I know the players are all saying the right words for Haugaard, but after playing in front of Butland all season, the uncertainty is there for all to see, especially the opposition.
I along with Selby, think Given should be “given” the nod for the remainder of the season as Haugaard looks out of his depth and doesn`t need his confidence knocking too much as it will dent his future prospects.
That coupled with a back four that has had more enforced changes than David Bowie`s image throughout his career, made leaking goals a near certainty.
I see Pieters is now suspended for two games,.. Yet another change!!
I hope we can shore up a bit come Monday and give Spurs a test, but I am rather nervous.
Still I remain positive, Onwards and upwards!!Cracking news, If he does eventually leave us, he has just put a few more fat zeros on the amount any club will have to pay. Another good example of our club looking after themselves financially in the future.
Well you got your wish Selby, I am still confident of finishing 7th, Good enough for Europa depending on cup winners!
If we can scrape into Europe for next season, then hanging on to players and also attracting more players into the club should be easier, but I admit the transfer window could be very busy in both directions this summer.
Either way it is a fantastic time to be a Stoke fan!!Stoke fan in peace,
Blackandwhite, on tonights game, not a great deal between the two teams, I thought we were a little more together and coupled with a fantastic strike and some breaks, we edged it.
However I take issue with your “scrooge for an owner” comment, as Newcastle were the 2nd highest nett spenders in the premier league this season after Moneybags Citeh`
IMO your biggest problems are created by too frequent manager changes and unrealistic fan expectations.
As a result I think you have a lack of team ethic or spirit. even though you have good quality individual players.A good point Clitheroe,
A nice return of nine points in the last three games, but we now go away to Chelsea who seem to have discovered their mojo.
I would be really happy with a point from that game, but who knows, this has been the most unpredictable and memorable prem seasons I`ve known. The top ten have really bunched up and as it stands, a good number of teams could finish in the Euro places.
Personally after watching Stoke for over forty years. I am delighted that we have 42 points with 10 games to go.Kick-off times other than Saturday 3.00pm are mainly a result of global TV coverage, which has steadily increased over the last few years.
This is however an occupational hazard, especially in the premier league.
Fans may moan about disrupted travel etc, but would they trade that for less transfer money for new high profile players that this same TV money generates.
I think not.Due to the huge sums of money around in the modern day game resulting from transfer, “signing on”, agents fees etc. It is very rare to see players stay at one club for a major length of time; and whilst he wasn`t the most talented player in the world, he was a player who gave 100% effort every time he donned the red and white.
Indeed in the early days of our premiership history, he was one of the first names on the teamsheet.
Some people may argue that proffesional footballers, especially premiershp players are way overpaid, and don`t deserve testamonials.
However he was never one of the highest earners and did not receive the financial rewards he perhaps deserved.
I hope we get quality high profile opposition for this game, and we as fans do our bit to give him a good send-off.A much needed 3 points, As the table stands tonight, 9 points separates 10 teams in “mid-table”. Looking at it realistically, we can finish anywhere between 5th and 14th.
As we go into the final third of the season, where are we likely to finish?
Thoughts anyone ??Point taken, Lenny, I suppose I just reacted to the post at the top of the list.
Regarding the subsequent posting afterwards creating a debate, I made a similar point on another post that was discussing this forum.February 9, 2016 at 8:22 pm in reply to: Stoke want new defensive midfielder, confirms Coates #854806Mudcat!!,
How about a player called Imbula, Ive heard he
s ok, Would cost a bit though, a tad more than we paid for our entire ground!!……. Oh well here`s hoping!!
LOL.It is ironic that a post about the lack of posts and interest almost instantly generates feedback and debate,
I too went through a spell posting, seemingly to myself, wondering where every one was.
Okay the initial re-launch of the site was really a massive IT disaster, and long time posters just switched off, but after noting Selbie, L.Loyal and Swisspotter back up and running, Perhaps we can get the SCFC. mojo running again??….
A good win and performance against Bournmouth this coming weekend would certainly be a welcome and a good incentive to post more!!Funny how a few bad results brings out the MH criticism brigade.
This bad run has coincided with a few injuries, especially in defence and in particular Mr Shawcross.
Other teams in mid-table have had bad runs as well, Southampton, Palace, Swansea, and now Southampton have moved above Stoke and are eyeing Europe again.
Arguably, it has never been a better time to be a Stokie, So lets see where we are after the next few matches before we start getting on MH`s back!!Yet another “Pinch Me” game this season.
I mentioned in a previous post that this team is up there with the famous mid seventies team. After the last two games, I would now say this current team is better and has more potential.
What an absolute joy to be a Stoke Fan at this time.
What Man Utd. Liverpool and Chelsea would give for this level of play and entertainment.
It is indeed a very merry Christmas!!In my previous post on this thread, I stated that if these players all click in one game, then heaven help our opponents!
Well today they did, and in spades. The best performance in my opinion, especially in the first half since the halcyon days of the mid seventies with Hudson, Greenhoff and the like.
They made Man.City look like a pub team at times and 5-0 would not have flattered Stoke.
What a fantastic time to be Stoke fan? Onwards and upwards!!! -
