Agree. Great win for us. Couple of difficult fixtures coming up though as you say. Funnily enough have more hope for a result out of the City game than a win against Brighton at Wembley. City play attacking football and can be vulnerable at the back but on the other hand, (as Poch himself says), Wembley stadium seems to inspire many teams to play harder.Trying to break through a determined and inspired defence of a lesser team can sometimes be like wading through a swamp! The fact that the games are only 2 days apart doesn’t help us either. Nevertheless, I am sure the boys will play their hardest. COYS
Agree they have both lost form at the same time but I really think our major problem is the loss of Toby. Its incomprehensible to me (if the tabloids are correct) that Spurs will not cough up enough to keep this guy happy. He is an amazing defender and more than that gives the whole team balance and confidence. It’s no good creating chances up front if your’e leaking goals at the back. Maybe I am being pessimistic but I don’t see much of an improvement in the team’s fortunes until after Christmas when Alderweireld returns.
Yes i agree he is complacent. As I mentioned earlier he seems to shine only in Champions League games (is he putting himself on show?).Competition for his place would certianly buck up his ideas.
Yes Dele seems to reserve his best for the Champions League games- super in the Second half against Dortmund- but still a bit over elaborate in the EPL and getting caught in possession. Winksie, though, is coming along by leaps and bounds. So proud of our home grow/home developed young players. So much more gratifying than buying a bunch of greedy mercenaries.
1-2 to Spurs v Arsenal
Hey Thudd
3-0 To Spurs v Oalace for me pleaseYou’re right mwake, it’s going to be hard to keep the predators at bay. As one paper put it yesterday “Levy had better keep his phone off the hook for the next year or so.”. Seriously though , there only two things that can protect our players from the predators and they are:winning a serious trophy plus more money for the players. If we win a trophy(a real one not a mickey mouse league cup), the money attration wont be as strong,- especially for the home grown players. The ultimate deterrent would be actually to win the Champions League. If you do that all the teams you mentioned, become lesser teams than yours. and all the club has to do is pay the players a bit more money. Easier said than done though!
Ok so no trophies yet but last night were we Super or were we Super?!!
Hi Thudd
My forecast for Saturday : 1-1 vs Man U
Cheers mateI disagree Shedend. A team can be called Super by the way it plays and the astuteness of its manager. Unlike Chelsea and City we have had to build our team slowly using home grown youngsters and nurturing unknown transferees into great players. It’s relatively easy to achieve instant success like Chelsea have done by spending billions of pounds on players and managers ( I assume by your moniker that Chelsea is your team) . Well, try doing it without a Russian billionaire’s money and see how far you get. As far as I remember, Chelsea were a bankrupt little club till your Russian pumped billions into it. Right now there are 2 super teams in the EPL -City and ourselves . Neither of these two teams has won trophies this season yet but their football is dazzling :I. E super. Get it now?
You’re right. Pure oversight on my part; Dier was excellent too. Cheers
Yes I will go too with 1-1 v Liverpool.Cheers
Hi Thudd
I reckon 4-0 to Spurs vs Palace.
Thanks
BestOctober 1, 2017 at 4:20 am in reply to: Time to end this ridiculous Harry Kane debate; naming Spurs’ most improved #1539175Agree with your article completely James. For me, the only thing Harry has left to do is surpass Bobby Smith and Jimmy Greaves as the all time highest scorer for Spurs (the latter being a huge ask!). From now on Tottenham will be under massive pressure from the Reals/PSG’s /Barca’s of this world to sell him. The fact that he is home-grown and a Spurs fan will not make it easy for this to happen but equally the management will have to realise that what we have is a priceless phenomenon – a home-grown, club loving, world class player. They simply must compensate him accordingly. Unfortunately, there is a perception among the Press and football Pundits in the UK that unless you have played for Real Madrid you cannot be world class. What rubbish that is. The best player I have ever seen in my life was a fella called George Best and he only played for one club! BTW, I noticed yesterday that the pundits- having run out of praise for Harry- are now trying to find negatives in his game in pointing out occasional selfishness. Well, selfishness is part of a strikers make- up isn’t it?. The fact that Harry Kane works all over the pitch- and in defence as well- surely negates that criticism. I share your opinion-undoubtedly a world class player!
Hi Thud
3-0 to Spurs v Huddersfield Thanks.
CheersHey Crespur, How’re you doing mate?
Yes I had a chuckle from your post. Actually hadn’t heard Ganso’s name mentioned by anyone or anywhere since Raja quit; and the snarls of “Enic Out” have been replaced with (sometimes grudging) purrs of satisfaction by most fans.I remember too the howls of dissatisfaction and contempt when Poch was appointed; perhaps these days, our biggest fear is whether we can keep him! Have to admit that Levy’s wage and transfer policy seems like a beacon of sanity in today’s world of crazy transfer fees and obscenely high wages paid to footballers. Still, it was good to see a but of pragmatism creeping into Spurs with the signing of Llorente. Afraid, though, I can’t see the conflagration of the transfer market ever becoming sensible as long as oil-rich countries and billionaire Russians own football clubs, and as long as satellite TV continues to earn enormous advertising revenue from around the world. After all, football is still and will likely remain the worlds most popular game. Hate to see an uneven playing field but fear it will remain so. Where does this leave THFC? I guess we’ll have to continue to do it the hard way by bringing in young players from the academy and turning low cost unknowns
into great players. If we can win something soon it would certainly help. Lets continue to be optimistic eh? CheersHe He! Well Ricky, can’t speak for Riddler, but in my case its the occasional symptom of the ” being- right-twice -a -day, broken clock” syndrome! Cheers
Same opinion as Rddler; 3-1 to Spurs v Borussia
I think we’ll have a reaction to s couple of below par performances. Everton1Spurs 3
Have to say agree with you. Lack of response or engagement is very frustrating. I’ve had the same experience as yourself. Don’t quit mate let’s keep trying.
