    Bloggsy,
Sorry you’ve been unwell mate. Been following your correspondence with Juanito. I live a lot further afield than you do -in Sri Lanka! Was born here though spent nearly ) half my life in UK from the age of 11 when I went to boarding (and later day school and then worked for many years in the City and all over the place- Singapore, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and New Zealand. (In my past life was a commodity trader- don’t hold that against me!) Funnily enough am in London now to catch the 2 London derbies coming up against west Ham and Chelsea.
Despite my school being a Rubgy playing school, football was my passion.Saw my first games at WHl as a “nipper” in the days when the big lads on the terraces carried you “over the top” so that you could see! Later on was a season ticket holder from the Mid Seventies to the Mid Nineties and yes I can proudly say I saw the double winning side. I still don’t know how any team could play “pin ball machine” football with a heavy leather ball in inches of mud (which is what pitches were like those days in English Winters) but the boys in White were simply from another planet those days! Just love the passion from the Youngsters who wear the white shirt nowadays and their ability seems to be getting better and better. Also have to say I really like what Poch is doing with this very young team- their confidence is so apparent. It would turn the football world upside down if Tottenham , with their low spending and youth policy could outgun the “big Money” teams. Get top 4 this season and win the title a couple years after that and my cup would simply overflow so much I don’t know if my heart could take it!! So far its been 54 years and I’m still counting! Cheers

Well perhaps ALL of the youngsters mentioned weren’t nurtured by Pochettino from the beginning, but he is the man who continued to play them and imbue them with self confidence when many posters on this board doubted them (and his judgment) and he should be given a great deal of credit for this.

Obviously disappointed we didn’t win despite having them on the rack for considerable periods of the game but very happy with our performance. We never looked as though we played 3 game in 6 days- indeed we were formidable at times- and I felt the boys gave it everything they had- and then some. I for one am proud of them. COYS

Hey mate , Pessimism (or more likely realism) creeping in my friend ? Well I’ve gone with 2-1 to Spurs and I’m sticking with that – clinging to the belief in the “power of positive thinking”!!.My head though says you are probably much nearer the mark.

Some very good points made about a player whose qualities other players would kill for. Spot on TK about his self belief. It used to so frustrate me to see him making it into the box, having gone past the opposition like they weren’t there only to make an unproductive sideways pass when he could have gone on and shot for goal ( and he does have a damn good shot on him!). Recently however, there signs that this missing self- belief is being addressed and I just get the feeling that Poch is working with him on this. Bloggy makes the telling point that its not a question of whether he plays but only which position he plays in: No 10 or Def-Mid with Dier. Well guys he can do a great job in either position. How fortunate are we to have that conundrum?

Actually Riddler they played completely different positions. Dembele played as a no 10 last night and Mason came on as a def-mid. I agree he should have kept Dembele on, who as you say, is at last demonstrating his considerable abilities. If he continues like this, Poch will have immense kudos as the manager who actually brought out his qualities.

Gus I take your point, their goal came from a mix-up between Dier and Mason (plus a wicked deflection). But I think you’re being a bit harsh on Mason. Prior to his injury I actually thought he was playing really well. I don’t think we played particularly well yesterday as a team, and when Vila made their 20 minute comeback, I thought we were going “Spursy” again and would surrender 2 points but the bright side is that there is a bit of steely resolution about Spurs these days and Harry did take his goal beautifully after some great work by Lamela. Sunday’s game worries me. The Gooners are playing very well these days and we will need to lift our game a lot higher than yesterday to get something out of it. Wow 3 London derbies in succession coming up! Will be there for the West Ham and Chelsea games and look forward to those.

Yes mate I would agree that the field IS levelling out. There’s been a general improvement of sides who didn’t make the top 4 last year and they’ve closed the gap a bit on the “bigger” clubs: our 4-1 drubbing of City is a case in point. Reasonably pleased with things so far. As you say we have been somewhat unfortunate not to be higher placed but where we are now is something I did not envisage at the start of the season! This year we don’t seem quite as “Spursy” as before. fingers crossed.

    Hey Bloggy!
So nice to see you back mate. Welcome! We’ve missed you.
If we all stick to this one thread it could become much more like the old days.
I can see you are far from convinced yet about our prowess on the field but I am a bit more optimistic. based on the fact that we are much harder to beat than we were (or is it that the other teams have got worse?). Cautiously optimistic but the fear of Dan selling our best players will always hang over us.
    Cheers

Good post Wiltspur. Very much agree with your assessment and, like you, am thrilled to see so many young English players being given a break by the club. I love the attitude of our youngsters. They play for the team and for each other, fight all the harder when they are a goal down and not a prima-donna in sight. Like you I dare to dream of Spurs one day winning the league with a team of Home- grown, predominantly British players. To Dare is to Do must surely start with daring to dream!

    Hi Sota
The proof of this particular pudding is that when you look at the “latest” posts, they are several hours if not days old whereas the “”old Your say would have posts coming in every minute. That surely should tell them that all is far from well with the new setup.

Agree about the new page Sota. A classic example of “if its not broke don’t fix it”! However I like the removal of the “thumbs”. It had got to the point where it was obviously being manipulated. Hopefully when a few of the others come back, we can get some of the passion back on this page.

Welcome back Riddler! I too had trouble getting back and finally achieved it thanks to Mark Holmes’ help. Was at the Liverpool game and despite sorely missing Dier and Son I don’t think we were too bad. Liverpool played as though they had come there for a point and Mignolet made a couple of brilliant saves to deny us 3 points. As for Harry Kane’s lack of goals I am still optimistic. He is still a very astute and extremely hard working footballer whose contributions would be sorely missed if he were not playing. We may not be on a winning streak but these days Spurs are hard to beat- a measure of our progress so far. What do you guys think?

Entirely agree with you Gus. Sure a manager can have top scouts advising him but he and he alone could envisage how his team can play with the addition of certain players. I don’t think that the D.O.F system works well at all in this country and as you pointed out the great Sir Alex would never have tolerated it. Can you imagine our own Bill Nicholson tolerating it either?

    Hey Crespur,
Have finally just got back to posting (I was one of those who didn’t get the email confirmation!). Thankfully though Mark Holmes kindly sorted me out- thanks Mark!
Have to confess that though I was getting really ticked off with the old site with the insults being hurled, vendettas, misuse of thumbs etc, etc, but when it went “off the air” for so long I did miss it. Very pleased that there are no more “thumbs” anymore.

Pleased you, Gus and Ginola’s Hair are back and look forward to the other “old boys” of THFC’s Your Say back on this page as well- Bloggy, Ofosh James etc etc.

A bit more optimistic on the team these days, Alli and Son seem like very good acquisitions, and am pleasantly surprised by Lamela’s recent form. Dier has been a revelation in his midfield role (sorry he wont be playing against Liverpool though.) We seem to be harder to break down which is pleasing. As for Kane, even though he hasn’t been prolific yet his football is amazing and he seems to be everywhere. I am sure his scoring skills will return.
    Best
