Aindro I’m not so sure it will be a tight game. Leeds play the same way irrespective of who they face. If we can keep them out in the first half I reckon we can exploit gaps when their high energy intensity levels and high press drop. I’d play the usual back 4, Kante and Mount in the middle with Ziyech and Werner flanking Havertz and Olly up top. With the luxury of those 9 changes yesterday the boys should be fresh…

Giroud HAS TO START…end of. Brilliant performance. Abraham would not have converted all those chances. Frightening selection headache for Frank. That front three behind Giroud were superb as well. Rudiger had a stormer of a game pinging 60 yard cross field balls like Xavi. Bring on Leeds….

I’m probably in the minority here but I’m happy with a point. I’m in agreement that Giroud should have started. Doesnt have the pace of Abraham but would have given the Spurs defence far more to think about. However our defence kept Kane and Son quiet and Mendy was definitely the less busy of the keepers.

We are still a team in progress. What should concern other sides is that we have the capacity to play much better. As nine also mentioned, when Pulisic is fit, then Werner moves to the middle.

On another note how good is Conor Gallagher. Scored the only goal for West Brom and was an absolute beast in midfield. Him, Mount and Kante next season would be a brilliant midfield 3. I rate him more highly then Declan Rice tbh.

Cannot believe our recent record at St James Park. One win in 9 or something ridiculous. Let’s change that tomorrow please. We have the likes of City/Spurs and Leicester/Liverpool. A win for us and those sides drawing would be lovely.

Our recent record against Newcastle at their place is appalling. One win in 9 or something to that effect. Not sure whether Havertz will be available. Pulisic definitely still not available and Silva more than likely to be rested. Mount has played 3 internationals in 6 days but hes young and hopefully will be recovered by 12-30 tomorrow. Chilwell been training but will he be risked with a shedload of games coming up. I’d leave him in the bench and bring in Azi at LB. Kovacic was on fire for his national side and I’d start him ahead of Jorginho. Not sure Frank agrees though. It’s his opinion that counts. I can see him selecting the following 11:
Mendy, Reece James, Zouma, Rudiger, Azi, Kante, Jorginho, Mount, Ziyech, Abraham and Werner.

Nine, that starting 11 of yours is probably the strongest on paper but it’s not the most balanced. Currently Kovacic gets in midfield ahead of Havertz and Tammy leads the line with Werner on the left. Pulisic is worryingly picking up too many injuries and for me is?lacking in fitness, form and consistency.

Kepa, James, Silva, Zouma, Chilwell, Kante, Kovacic, Mount, Ziyech, Werner and Abraham…more balanced. Abraham is a striker who will thrive off the service from Mount, Kovacic, Ziyech and our fullbacks.

Solid display but we were lucky in that the ref totally killed the game with our 2nd ‘penalty’ and that ridiculous sending off. Bonkers decision for the penalty, inexplicable decision for the sending off. Rennes played pretty well when down to 10. Wont be easy at all at their place. But another clean sheet. Mendy and Silva again majestic. We move on….

Havertz out with Covid. Still a decent lineup. Cant see why we dont come away with the win. Utd losing….pressure on Ole.

I agree that the Utd game is huge especially since they’ve always done well against us under Ole and that they have recently raised their performance levels. However to suggest that Lamps must go if we don’t perform against Utd and Burnley is madness. By perform I mean gain two points or less.

Football is currently off its face. Just look at the results being thrown up recently. Real and Barca losing domestically to far inferior opposition, Real losing in the CL at home the other night, the beatings Liverpool, City and Utd have suffered, Villa being top….need I go on.

I was encouraged by our performance against Sevilla. They’re a very, very decent side. But our clean sheet saw a marked improvement in our defending…individually and as a unit. Frank also knows his best back 5, the problem is that they have hardly been available to play together. When they do, they keep clean sheets.

Silva may be 36 but is light years ahead of all our other defenders, including Rudiger. He brings a calmness, organisation and experience that no-one else can. If Frank manages him properly, he will be probably our most important player in determining how successful this season pans out.

I still feel that their will be more crazy results over the next couple of months. Provided we keep pace with the top four, I reckon we will improve as the players get more used to each other, the nature of the PL and increased levels of confidence. We have the killers in our team, they just need to be harnessed properly as individuals and as a unit. That’s Franks job and I believe enough in him to get things right. Another crazy scenario is that the transfer window opens in 10 weeks time. Maybe an opportunity to get that physical midfielder we need in the middle of the park.

Hahaha nine, yes 10 men would be a rather generous early Christmas gift to Utd wouldn’t it. Best add Havertz then. Not sure if u saw but Sarr starred for Porto against City. Was their 2nd highest rated player and by all accounts did pretty well.

Yep, a really tough game indeed. Utd always play well against us under Ole and they played extremely well last night. I can see Pogba starting on the bench again. Wonder if they will deploy a back three against us? It worked a treat against PSG. A bigger question is whether we will deploy a back three against Utd? We certainly have the personnel to deploy a 3-4-3. We are away so we can afford to be a little more defensive. A few selection posers for Frank in central midfield and the front three. Pulisic and Ziyech still not up to full match form and fitness. Mount has also dropped his performance levels. If all are fit and available I’d play the following in a 3-4-3

    Mendy
    Azi
    Silva
    Zouma
    Chilwell
    Kante
    Kovacic
    Reece James
    Werner
    CHO

    …or the following in a 4-2-3-1

    Mendy
    Chilwell
    Silva
    Zouma
    Reece James
    Kante
    Kovacic
    CHO
    Havertz
    Werner
    Abraham

The final nail in Kepas coffin I reckon. Must be rather humiliating knowing that the clubs 38 yr old technical and performance advisor is now part of the squad. Frank can dress it up how he wants, we all know the real reason for this call up.

A very decent point. Mendy and Silva make a massive difference to our defence, especially in European competition. We looked far more composed and that’s the difference a decent keeper and experienced CB, who can organize our defence, makes. Last season we lost our opener against Valencia. Seville are far better opposition. We should qualify before having to play them again. But top spot would certainly make our progress from the knockout phases easier. To be honest, with the exception of Bayern, we shouldn’t have to fear any side. Next stop…Old Trafford.

Big Willy has to start. Nines team is probably right although I’d rather have Kovacic and Kante in the middle. Chilwell definitely starts as well. Not sure where that leaves Dave. Playing 3-4-3 could allow for both James and Dave but then we only really have three attacking players. Here’s a contentious lineup:

    Big Willy

    Azi
    Silva
    Zouma

    Chilwell
    Kante
    Kovacic
    James

    CHO
    Werner
    Mount

    A few thoughts:

1- It’s not just our defence that’s struggling. Spurs who are coached by a defensive maestro conceded 3 in less than 15 min. Lmfao at the Spuds. Liverpool conceded 7, City conceded 5, Utd conceded 6, Wolves conceded 4….and so on.

2- Whilst Zoumas backpass/back header was short, Kepa should have reacted miles quicker. Frank fucked up by selecting him. No confidence leads to uncertainty which then filters through the rest of the defence.

3- Our returning players, esp Ziyech and Pulisic will need more time to get up to full form and match fitness.

4- Frank has only had the chance to play what I think are his best back 5 once before…that was Palace and we never conceded.

5- I’m concerned about Kante, not sure whether his not at 100%, whether he’s unsure of his role or whether having Jorginho alongside him causes him to be far less effective. But he’s struggling.

6- I’m in full agreement that we need help in coaching our defence. Oh for a Hiddink or Carlo. Frank obviously cant legislate for the schoolboy errors that we make every game but it’s the ingrained instruction which is lacking. Fucking playing fancy shit from out the back with 5 mins to go…that’s nonsense. Smash it into the stands or miles down the field. Buy time, get the defence an opportunity to reset. Losing simple possession in the middle of the park against a high pressing side…yes that’s u Kai Havertz, unacceptable when mistakes like this are being made every game and repeatedly.

7- Does Frank have a plan B or C when things aren’t working. Jose was a master at that, Carlo is another.

8- If Frank wants to keep Azi on as our skipper then he HAS to play three at the back. Because Reece James now should always be our starting RB..unless hes injured or woefully out of form.
Not sure how he fits all our attacking talent in though!!

9- This years PL is the most open its ever been. With Liverpool losing Van Dyk for potentially the entire season theres no clear favourite. Top 4…what’s that, more like top 10.

10- Loaning out Barkley could come back to haunt us. A forward moving, physical, goal scoring midfielder…our loss is most certainly Villas gain.

Seems we aren’t the only club with defensive issues. If a Jose coached Spuds lose a 3-0 lead within 15 minutes, what chance does everyone else have…😂

It’s a crazy, crazy season. Liverpool have probably lost Van Dyk for the season. That is so huge that I could see them not winning the league this season. Once we have our best back 4 together and we allow them to play regularly, we should tighten up. And that back four does NOT include Dave.

Same old…seems we need a 3 or 4 goal lead to ensure we can get over the line for 3 pts.
A player I feel we should have gone all out to sign….Thomas Partey. He will be IMMENSE for the Goons.

Oh, wtf did Reece James not start? Offers more pace, more physicality, more dynamism and way better crossing ability than Dave…..

Thank heavens Chilwell is fit. Any reason why James is on the bench? He was immense against the Danes in midweek. Happy enough with the starting 11. Attacking 4 of Pulisic, Mount, Havertz and Werner is mouthwatering. Decent options on the bench. I’m hoping for a goal fest.
