Jeff – Oh you love dilly dallying don’t you.I’m pretty confident I can find a post through your posting history where you’ve said Arteta is not the right manager for this club. You not wanting Arteta or claiming the club should’ve never appointed him is the same thing as Wanting him out/sacked from the club.So I really don’t know what you’re trying to prove. You said top 6 was a minimum he should’ve achieved and he finished 5th so surely hes proved you wrong and that he is a good enough “Coach”(being the operative word and not manager) at this club.

Listen I’m not here to pick a fight and neither am I defending Arteta.I think he’ll get the sack next season because he will fail to show progress(a top 4 finish is the only way we can show progerss next season/still far away from his delusional plan of winning the CL within 3 seasons). My simple point is sacking the manager has never been the solution because they aren’t the problem in the first place. It’s all the things I’ve listed in my previous post.
Sack Arteta next season/appoint another manager.Show regression. It’s a cycle don’t you get it.

I think if the personel above have any sort of knowledge/analysis we should let edu go in the summer and appoint a transfer guru who can get in the right recruitment.

People honestly think two strikers/a midfielder and a right back will solve our issues. They’re delusional and will be proven wrong again. This club is on par with Man united in terms of needing their squad fixed.Except one club actually admits/acknowledges they need major changes with their very own special advisor ragnick claiming they may need as many as 9-10 changes.

I think we too need atleast 6-7 changes.
Two strikers,a left winger, two varying creative midfielders,a right back,a back up left back is the minimum required to even compete for top 4 next season.
You can’t expect an overachievement every season, espescially with midweek football I’m more than certain we won’t make top 4 next season. You can remember this quote.
Yes,might be pre-mature as our transfer dealings haven’t been done yet but I’m so confident these two donkeys can’t get in the “required” personel to compete I’m already making that claim.

Both stev and Jeff are wrong in their own manner.but ofcourse you’re entitled to your views.

One is Mr.positive come what may.We can lose 6-0 and he’d try and take a positive out of the game.Whatever happens at the end,he’ll say let’s move on,there’s always a next season and even in that next season when the club fails again he dosen’t really show the dissapointment a top club’s fan should.

The other person’s only solution seems to be sack the manager. He wanted wenger gone, yet we haven’t finished in the CL spots ever since and only regressed. He wanted Emery gone, yet he’s overachieved in a side with a shoe string budget winning the EL and reaching the CL semis and doing pretty well for the squad at his disposal in the league too. Now,it’s Arteta out time.
He’ll say the same for the next manager and the one after.

Except, the problem dosen’t always have to be the manager.
It’s the lack of direction from the very top. It’s the low targets being set. It’s the terrible recruitment strategy but most imporantly it’s the delusional philosophy of keeping faith in youngsters when in yet another season they’ve bottled it towards the end.Make no mistake I’m not blaming the youngsters because it was too much to ask of them but I’m blaming the club for thinking they could get the job done when they have never.

The solutions are clear. The most reasonable one would be to sack Edu.Bring in a transfer guru similar to Luis campos(He seems to have just joined PSG).
Demote Arteta to merely a coach and give him another season.
Give the club a 200m transfer budget(That’s the min required to fix this squad but recruitment is absolute key).

I’m not even some football proffessional, merely a fan but the solutions are so very clear and the fact that those who are actually proffessionals fail to see the real problems makes it even more iconic and just is another indication why this club will never be successful under those very personel.

The most glaringly obvious reason for our CL failure has to be the attrocious squad management. From game one,we didn’t have it sorted which is why we got thrashed in the opening games.Come Jan,you have Nketiah and Laca rumoured to leave but they both stayed because Edu failed to find a replacement.I repeat,I completely blame Arteta for the letting some players go and not knowing what it takes to assemble a good enough squad but recruiting players is on Edu.You cannot put in a 70m bid for a player, but not have any back up plan incase that fails. How many players have rejected us?Vlahovic,Buendia,Locatelli. These were our primary targets but we’re not the same team as before and now with lack of CL that makes is even more tougher.

It’s no wonder we won against Chelsea,Man united and west ham when there was no pressure.A sanctioned team under scrutiny,a very poor man utd side that many other teams have beaten as well and a west ham team that were sandwiched in between EL ties.

We played almost one game per week for most of the season.Having loads of rest.Huge advantage which we won’t have next season.

I repeat,I do not trust these donkeys at all.Sacking a manager is not the answer to everything. This club must realise what the real problem is and that is terrible recruitment and a lack of direction from the very top.
Finshing outside the CL has become the new normal for us,it seems to have become acceptable.Such low are the expectations.

    Failure of a season.

Not excited for next season at all,I guarantee anyone on here we won’t make top 4 again. We bottled our best chance in many years due to utter negligence and ignorance.

I don’t think when a player scores a goal in the match it qualifies being in anyone’s pocket. But like I said he’s decent defensively but below average offensively and yes you can show me stats to prove that otherwise.

As for that sorry excuse of a defender Ben white,He had one standout game and it was in anfield away in the carabao cup. He’s not stood out in any other game. That’s because most other strikers have got the better off him.
The fact that you fail to see that proves that yourself and many other fans likewise refuse to criticise him because you don’t want to afford to call a 50m man a flop but the truth is that signing was as bad as Utd signing Harry Maguire.
The truth is Maguire was atleast solid for Leicester and even though they paid over the top for him he was atleast proven.Ben white wasn’t at Brighton.
We basically spent 50m on pure potential which is borderline madness.

A good club is pro active and not reactive.Do we wait anothers season to call him a flop. Will our ignorant fans ever see him as a flop.
I don’t mean we should boot him out of the club but we cannot depend on him being a first team member when he can’t even play in a two man defense.

Salliba hasn’t played a game for us and I’d already pick him over Ben white next season.

I have always backed Arteta as a coach. But his amaeteurish decisions in squad management that reek of Ignorance and negligence has basically cost this team a top 4 spot.
He’s used Arsenal as a stepping stone to develop as a manager. If he needs to be booted out next season for it which will most likely be the case since I don’t trust him one bit with recruitment,so be it.

Steve – For me to have any hope these players should’ve shown promising signs.None of them have. For Tomi,You can atleast make a case that hes decent defensively although he offers no attacking threat but as I said he was the wrong profile player to sign considering the system we play.Saka must’ve suffered so much with the lack of support from a RB but he has still had a good season.

But as for Ben White, the guy is a poor Man’s Harry maguire.I find it amusing that Arsenal fans refuse to criticse him just because he cost 50m and he’s English.Go and rewatch his performances. He is so frustrating to watch. He’s not even that good a defender. His passing is wayward whenever he tries a “hard” pass.He gets beat on one on one situations.Lacks pace.Callum wilson made a mug out of him and so have so many others.
I’m not saying there’s no room for improvement but from I can only judge on the evidence I’ve seen this season and it’s underwhelming to say the least.

He is so very clearly only suited to a back 3 whick Arteta never employs and thus it begs the question why we signed him.Do you genuinely think there is another club that will pay 50m for him. We’d be lucky is we get 20-25m for him.

This is all on Arteta and Edu.It comes down to the core problem of the club which is the recruitment. We are the worst club in terms of recruitment and that is a key area in any club’s success.Managers come and go but it is very difficult to replace players that you’ve paid a lot of money for.

We’ve spent 72m for pepe,50m for white and 20m on Tomi. That is 142m on 3 players that are simply not worth that amount.Had we recruited better,we could’ve freed up funds to sign other players. If we recruited well last summer we could’ve signed Bruno G in Jan for 33m.I begged for this club to sign him as I knew he would be a hit and he’s been basically world class for Newcastle.

When Liverpool rebuilt their squad under klopp they got it absolutely spot on.Each and every single player has been a hit for them as Klopp knew exactly what he wanted.

Unfortunately as I said Arteta dosen’t know what players he actually requires to fit his style of play.Hence, him and that joker Edu cannot be trusted to bring in players yet again. As simple as that.

Steve – With respect,Fans like yourself approving the signings of Ben white and Tomiyasu is a part of the problem.

Ben white is the most overrated,Overpriced signing this club has made in a long time.Signing an unproven PL player who played for a club that finished 17th in the league was borderline insanity.
The guy has been attrocious in many games, caught on the wrong side.Terrible on one one one’s.One of his supposed strenghts is suppose to be a good ball playing defender but he is attrocious at that too.
Everytime he plays a long ball it’s a wayward misplaced pass.
It’s a signing for which we will never be able to recover our investment simply because he was nowhere near worth what we paid for him.
Then Tomiyasu, splashing out 20m on him on the last day.Firstly he didn’t fir the profile of right back we needed considering our style of play.He offers zero attacking threat.
Secondly his injury record is attrocious. He’s missed more games than he has played in this second half of the season when we needed him.
He’s not the signing we needed and the fact that we failed this season proves that.

The main problem is so glaringly our recuruitment. This club is hell bent on singing unproven players espescially not PL proven. If it works out they want a pat on their back if it dosen’t then it’s another one of our many failures.

I do agree that the solution to everything is not sacking the manager.Only an amateur impatient fan incapable of a deeper analysis will always have a go at the manager.

The simple fact is considering this squad Arteta Has overachieved still,Massively. However he has basically cancellled all of his overachievement out by grossly mismanaging the squad and with his terrible recruitment.
In short,Arteta does not know what it takes to gather an able squad.
It’s so obvious espescially after our recent bottling of games. These youngsters were never equipped to finish in the CL simply because they don’t know how to deal with pressure situations as has been proven recently. They lack the expereince. And the amount of inexpereince we have in our squad is mind boggling.

Unlike some other fans,I don’t think sacking Arteta is a solution. But I’d certainly take power away from him espescially that of recruitment.

Sack Edu,who’s been nicking a living at the club.Absolutely atrocious technical director.

People say Jan is not a good window for recruitment.Absolute bollocks.
Look at paratichi,He appointed Conte which was basically an impossible job. Then he signed Kuluveski and Bentancur on “LOAN” in a window people think is not a good time to buy players. The guy is a genius and someone like him is exactly what we need.

The solutions are glaringly obvious but those at the top are too stupid to realise it.

Also,Arteta’s decision to let Auba leave and join barca.

Last time I checked he is their top scorer.Imagine a player joining mid season and being your top scorer and making them finish in the top 4.

Not even replacing him. It’s criminal really.

Arteta is terrible at squad management. It is so so clear.

I still back him but purely as a coach. He is amateur to say the least in all other aspects of the game.

We were never actually favourites for that spot, even when it was in our hands.Too many young unproven players that bottled it today. If you put it in hindisight, think about it.

Our front 4 was Nketiah,Saka,Odegaard and Emile smith row.All of them extremely young for this type of pressure situations. They lack expereince and none of them actually proven.Sure Saka and odegaard are good for the future but before this season none of them were proven.

I knew we’d bottle it.The writing was all over the wall.
And when I said Arteta dosen’t know what it takes to achieve the targets i meant it which is exactly why he cannot be trusted with recruitment.

Look at man united,They’ve had a failure of a season as well.

But what do they do?Realisation.Bringing in a new manager with those at the top actually admitting they need to bring in 9-10 players in.

What’s our solution?Hand the manager a contract extension before the job is even done with the technical director saying we only want to bring in 1-2 players.

The difference in ambition is between the two clubs couldn’t be further.

We’ve bottled out best chance to finish in the top 4.If anyone thinks we will do it next season or even come close to it,they’re deluded.

And if anyone is making excuses or accepting a 5th place finish espescially after the position we were in,have to be the most unambitious fans ou there.

    Fitting.

Well glad to hear there is atleast one sensible fan on here.
Reminder we paid 50m for him.I mean 50m Pounds?Has to be the worst buy of this club.Simply because it was an unproven player from a club that finished 17th in the league.

Not saying he might not have potential but no ways was he worth that amount, not even half of that.

Points to poor recruitment.Splashing out Ridiculous money on an unproven player happens to be the Foundation of this club’s policy.

I don’t trust these idiots with this recruitment.

Foxy – Judging from your comments,You’ve either not watched the game long enough or You’re being incredibly biased. It’s almost like everyone just wants to see the top 4 race going down to the wire so it’s clouding their judgement.

The ref had an absolute shite game.He was the main reason the way the game turned out.I’m not saying Spuds wouldn’t have won otherwise but he just ruined it early on and made it easier for them.

We started the game well. Then he gives the softest penalty you’ll see.You see shoves inside the penalty box all the time.Is it enough to warrant a penalty,no way.If you watch the replays, son actually wasn’t going to get to the ball.So he anticipates a shove from cedric and makes the most of it.Pathetic baby.
If you don’t believe me,go and see Spurs vs Liverpool earlier on in the serason.Where I one of the spurs players shoves the liverpool player in the same way if not worse.Same ref,No penalty.Var dosen’t intervene.
How he can give two varying decisons for a similar incident is beyond me.

Then,Son makes an absolute mug of Holding.Whereas when Holding was down and Son elbowed him he didn’t do anything. It’s sad that players need to play act to get the ref’s attention and I actually blame Holding for acting like some sort of warrior for what could have been a red card.Reminds me of koscielny vs Costa at The bridge many seasons ago where costa should’ve been off.

A ref ruins a game by sending a player off so early in the game.I’ve seen Holding on son closeley again and there was not one yellow card challenge there.Persistent fouling?Maybe. But 95% of the refs don’t send off a player so early in the game unless they absolutely have to if the tackle is malicious which it was not.

We lost because of the ref, simple as.What could’ve been is anyone’s guess but there’s a reason English refs are hardly selected for major competition like the EUROS OR WORLD CUP.

The standard of Refereeing in this country is by far the worst and so is the application of VAR.

One word to describe today – Stupidity.

Two players cost us.Cedric and Holding. The latter more so.A good back up player but that’s about it.He is nowhere near good enough to start in pressure filled games. He showed what an idiot he is,going down to 10 men is the worst thing can happen because that’s the game done espescially for a team like us where apart from one odd game we just don’t know how to get a result.

The ref was shit as well. It’s like he was irking to send off someone and the penalty was soft as well but when you have a diver then you have to be careful.

I thought putting cedric up vs son was utter stupidity.I was so hoping for Arteta not to try something different but I knew he his stubborn self wouldn’t allow him to change the formation.

It’s a game we did’t have to lose. But the amount of games where we could’ve drawn but have gone onto get nothing out of the game I cannot count on my fingers anymore and that seems like a mentality issue.

Now we have to win at Newcastle.By no means is that going to be easy and it was utter stupidity to neglect certain positions in the Han transfer window but I’ve repeated it many times already.

This game is the biggest test of this current set of player’s mentality yet.
So was leeds, and even though we had to play against 10 men for almost the entire game you saw how nervy it was in the second half even though we could’ve easily killed the game off.

From what I’m hearing and reading elsewhere,a lot of our fans are overconfident which is idiotic.Spurs as a team have much better quality than us.Kane,son,Kuluveski.the first two are world class and the latter has been playing like one.For them it is their game of the season and honestly I think they’ll win.If we had a better team I’d be slightly more confident but I’m sure they’ll get the 3 points considering what’s at stake.

What’s scary is even though it’s a game we can afford to lose we must by no means treat it that way.Newcastle away is almost as tough considering the way they’ve been playing the second half of the season and while they might not have much to play I feel their mentality as a club has changed since the saudi Ownership so it’s not like they’ll just let us win.Everton at Home I’m hoping they are safe going into the game.

But remember,we have a bigger advantage. That being that we don’t have to win.It makes a huge difference on how you can approach the game and set up tactics. They have to win.
Like I said Mikel will have to pull a rabbit out of his hat and try something different and surprise them.If he does,my hats off to him but knowing his pattern he’ll stick to the same formation and tactics and we’ll lose.

Jeff – He’s not the worst player, come on you have to admit he’s done pretty well considering he’s 34 years old. However, there’s no way we should keep him beyond this season.Loaning Hector Bellerin who’s won a trophy with Betis and keeping cedric was madness and yet another one of Arteta’s idiotic squad management decisions. He’s taken a massive gamble this season.

Cedric has played more than Tomiyasu,Who I’m not that big a fan of either but he’s alright defensively.

If it were upto me,I’d seriously retain Hector.I think he can be a good player and he’s been a part of Arsenal so many seasons and ofcourse won 3 fa cups.

But Like I said,I just do not trust Edu and Arteta to do what it takes to accumulate a good enough squad.

Rumours are we are in for only another striker,CM, and RB.That’s laughable, cosndiering we’re going to play a lot of games next season with European competetion in midweek.

I’d sign two strikers.Jesus and Osimen/Nunez.Two midfielders to have variations in midfield where we can play a midfield 3 as well as opposed to a two.Tielemans and Aouar would be my pick.
Loan lokonga out.Nketiah I don’t know about but if he dosen’t want to be hear he can leave but it’s a crime we are letting a 30m player min leave for nothing.

I’d sign an attacking RB as well if we’re not going to retain Hector.Rumours are we are in for Aaron hickey. This club, like they go for the most bizzare players. They just want a pat in the back if the signing turns out to be great. But history suggests the recruitment has been absolute garbage more often than not.

This is the minimum required to go into a new season and for it to be successful.

Arteta hasn’t started with a back 5 since I can remember. He clearly dosen’t beleive in the system and only swtiches towards the end of the game when we need to close out the game. It’s strange considering how well it has worked for him.

I’d play a back 5 with Tomi at RWB,White Holding and Gabriel in the centre and Taveres at LWB.

There is so much balance there, espescially on both the sides. But ofcourse he won’t go with that.He is obsessed with playing cedric.Yes,he’s done well for his age but I do not trust him.But again,I don’t trust many other players.

I don’t understand this club’s decision making To be honest. And I have nothing against Mikel. The guy made mistakes in the transfer market but the fact is he has overachieved with this squad up until now.I have backed him in his worse times here, being amongst the very very few.

However, what’s this logic?Apparently our plan and “target” is to actually achieve top 4 next season, and not this season. So whatever target was set(I’m presuming Europa) it has been acheived. However,I will find it a failure if we don’t achieve it this season itself considering varoious factors such as lack of mid week football that has worked to our advantage.
However,if the plan is to achieve it next season, and we fail does that mean both of them should get the sack.Arteta and Edu that is.If so,then why offer him a new contract? And doing it on the back end of 3 losses?Need i remind you that no person(including the manager) is bigger than the club and managing a club of such Huge stature and tradition should be an honour. Are they trying to make mikel feel good?

I would’ve waited until the end of the season atleast. To be honest,I still don’t trust our recruitment esespcially at the hands of Donkey Edu guiding him. He’s going to waste funds again.

Good clubs make pro-active decisions not reactive. This season was merely a fluke,it’s one of those 9 out of 10 times you’re most likely not going to get the same result and that’s purely down to negligence and ignorance in the trasnfer market.

Now that we’re guaranteed mid week games next season in Europe,if this club dosen’t bulk it’s squad,we’re in for an absolute disaster.

It’s funny because Mikel worked at city so one would assume he would know what it takes to compete at the highest level but he has ignored certain things that no other manager would have.

Simple point – We need a big summer. And not just one or two good signings but atleast 5-6 incomings.Don’t depend on young players. They’re there. They perform it’s a bonus. It will be a win-win.But if they don’t then all blame will lie with them.

Max – That is precisely my fear. Our squad is a joke, and not only our whole squad I’d even say our first team.As much as I like the likes of ESR for example you cannot depend on him to be a starter everygame. This is the problem with this club,we put too much pressure on such young up and coming players. They’re there,if they perform it’s a bonus and they can always fight for their place in the first team.

Even now I don’t have much confidence we’ll even make top 4,which I know a lot of people genuinely would consider it to be disastrous how far we’ve made it.

Either way,we’re going to most likely play mid week European football. If we don’t get atleast 5-6 incomings (exluding loan returns) than we’re screwed. We wouldn’t make it out of the group stages. And I personally simply don’t trust both Arteta and Edu to know what it takes to actually build a successful team. They’re focused too much on youth thinking they can get the job done.
But the simple fact is Arteta has had a laughable squad for this season(Much of it his own doing) but either way he’s overacheieved.

Steve – Correction,we spent the most in Europe. Most Of the recruitment I absolutely don’t agree with or support.I think our realistic target would be to finish in the top 4.
And I keep saying this again and again but people take it lightly,we will not get a better chance simply because Man united,Spurs and even Newcastle will improve massively for next season.

A lot also ignore that we have not been in Europe and out of other competetions only the PL to focus on.Less games, more preparation time, better fitness.Huge advantage espescially working to our advantage something we might not have next season.

I don’t take any game for granted, even Everton, leeds at home.We have to treat every game like a final. But that NLD one is just too huge. It’s a game we simple cannot afford to lose. It’s amazing what the race for top 4 has come down to and the outcome of that game agaisnt two teams fighting for that spot will most likely decide the outcome of the table.

What an important win that was which I didn’t expect.Everytime we go into a game, you look at our line-up and for me personally it fills me with no confidence. It’s too many young players learning on the job.Arteta has massively overachieved to get us in this position in the first place although much of it is his doing as I don’t back much of his recruitment.

I thought Nketiah had a good game. Not in front of goal but just the way he chases down every ball. His run for that pass from Mo El Nenny was brilliant.By the way he’s another player who deserves massive praise. He is probably the most proffesional player in our squad.Comes in when called up,does the job.I find him underrated because he also brings the best out of players around him espescially Xhaka,

But my Motm who is an easy choice for everyone is Holding.Honestly, this idea that we miss Ben white is utter garbage.I saw absolutely no difference except Holding actually done a better job.Got a goal, put in a few important blocks.

The performances are not convincing but at this stage the results are what matter. The next few games are as important as they come.
