Report today in the Daily Telegraph concerning Arsenal’s £120m Bank of England Loan. It seems this has been repaid by taking out yet another loan which highlights the effects of the pandemic and lack of revenue. This loan has a much higher rate of interest but the club is not now restricted in what the money can be used for. What that says about transfers is any bodies guess.

On a related note Dennis Bergkamp has come out in support of Daniel Ek. It seems Ek has approached KSE on two occasions only to be told forget it.

The Telegraph also reports Willock is open to moving to Newcastle as he believes he will be given genuine opportunities there, something he never had at Arsenal. If Arteta is going to start selling top home thrown players so he can buy overpriced 3rd rate foreigners from the inferior French League or a mid table Spanish side he must be sacked immediately. He’s signed enough dross whilst costing us the PL’s best keeper.

You shouldn’t believe all you read in The Telegraph:

    From Arteta on Willock:

“I think it was great for him to go away and have a different experience and he has grabbed that opportunity in a really positive and remarkable way. He’ll be back with us, we’ll have those conversations with him and plan the next years for him.

On if he’s staying: “Well, for sure, because he has a contract and he’s going to be here. That’s for sure.”

Doesn’t sound like he’ll be sold to me.

I’d prefer to believe a quality newspaper with award winning sports reporters as opposed to Arteta. He said similar things about Martinez and then gave him away.

Er no he didn’t and the Telegraph has not been a decent newspaper for a long time. Like a tabloid these days.

Still the best newspaper out there and I’d still believe the reporter Luke Edwards over Mr. Indecision any day of the week

We’ll see, but I reckon he’ll stay and be an important player for us next year.Time we tell.

One thing that I think we both agree on is it would be criminal to sell him. We need a goal scoring midfielder and there he is.

Exactly right. Selling homegrown talented players in order to bring in overpaid average players from European Leagues with no allegiance to Arsenal and are in effect mercenaries hasn’t worked. The form and attitude of Saka & Smith-Rowe and the form of Martinez at Villa should be a signpost to Arteta. Build the side around the Hale End boys, they’re better and more committed than the likes of Willian, Abameyang, Bellerin etc. Willock is a talent and he provides something no other Arsenal player does, power, pace, running 50 yards with the ball and scoring goals. Problem is I have no faith in Arteta to make the right decisions.

I made this point already fatmop and no it wouldn’t be criminal at all to sell him. YouTube Charles Watt who is a journalist of Arsenal and as a genuine arsenal fan through and through he explains a lot of things from his perspective. He and I share the same opinion that Joe Wilock hasn’t done enough at Arsenal to suggest he is long term.

Furthermore, you heard it from the horses mouth, Arteta is reluctant to play too many young players backed up by his quotes on Martinelli. I also have to add that I am in the opinion Joe Wilock, Nketiah and Reiss Nelson are not the way forward and if we can get good money for them I would not hesitate to sell. We should have the upper hand for once in terms of selling Joe Wilcok.

I also mentioned about the whole double pivot positional play and Joe Wilock does not suit one bit in that role. We aren’t going to change system (AT LEAST Arteta will not want) to accommodate a player like that, and not a particularly technically gifted or star quality player anyway.

I really don’t care if the Toon erect a statute for him outside their ground, for me I watch football not just on statistics, but how it’s played out in front of me, how a player controls a ball, how he moves with the ball, do they glide, do they play round the corner, can they play one touch? Etc Etc. For me, Wilock lacks these things but how crucial is it to score goals? Absolutely you can never argue with someone who sticks the ball in the net consistently and regularly. Believe it or not, even when Auba was on top form, I always said I don’t like his style of play and it’s funny – since his goals dried up – I think people are starting to realise how poor other aspects of his game is and take that away from him, what does he have left? Food for thought, but I think something similar with Joe Wilcok – take his energy and goals away and ability to run up and down what you got left?

You guys are absolutely spot on, our lack of goals from midfield is a joke. The criminal thing to do would not to sell Joe Wilcok, but to buy nobody at all and expect the ball to go into the net on its own.

BSM I respect Charlie watts, and your opinion for that matter, but unless we were to receive a stupidly high figure I think it would be really foolish to sell Willock.

Firstly being homegrown gives him extra importance as we need the numbers in the squad. And secondly and most importantly he is a midfielder player that is guaranteed to get you goals, something which we clearly lack.

Yes if his engine and goal scoring knack dries up his main attributes are gone but I think he is more technical than you give him credit and the runs he makes are clever he’s no headless chicken.

He may not be the finished article and I agree it is hard to see him seamlessly fit into the team based on Artetas preferred system, but I’d like to see him next to Partey. I think there’s more than enough room for him and I’d be surprised if he’s not used a lot next season.

Nketiah and Reiss Nelson however are different, the former I don’t think can plead the line and Reiss Nelson has a bit too much ahead of him. I’d like to see both loaned for a year or if any team wants to offer £15m plus I’d cash in.

He’s not good enough in my opinion, like I said – football are beyond just statistics. My opinion and there are more people who share the same view but each to their own. Like I said sell, raise funds and get the necessary player in. We had an English midfielder in Jack and we raved about him at Joes age, tell me which of us are that excited by Joe. When Jack was coming through we had way more quality in the squad yet all Jack Wilshere was on the names of our lips. You just saw his star quality. I’ve seen enough of Joe to see how well he can play on the ball, you can’t train that or teach that – even Saka coming through you could see he knew where to drive into space and I was more confident he could be an asset for us.

I don’t think you compare Wilshire and Willock they are very different players. What a player Wilshire could have been but for injuries – a real shame.

A better comparison is Ramsey and Willock. Willock of course has a long way to go but there are similarities.

And I generally don’t disagree with you about football being beyond statistics. However when your talking about goals scored that’s a different matter. What kind of a difference to our season would a 20 goal midfielder player have made?

You are of course entitled to your opinion and I am not saying he will be world class but well well worth keeping I think.
