Good article in today’s Telegraph by Jamie Carragher where he states Abameyang has given up and is the new Ozil and Arsenal must dump the underachieving senior players, replace them with quality who want to play for the club and base the side around the younger players. Couldn’t agree more

Aubameyang is in poor form, and its a problem, no debate there, but to imply he doesn’t care is lazy click bait journalism. To ‘dump’ a player you’ve invested so heavily in would be cranky stupid.

Watch his celebrations when Pepe scores against Slavia Prague – that doesn’t look like someone who doesn’t care does it? His work rate is not the problem, the problem is that nothing seems to be coming off for him and he is bereft of confidence.

The situation is different than with Ozil in that there is no change of management and style – Arteta is still in charge.

I just cannot believe a player who carried us through the last few seasons, winning the FA cup, suddenly becomes disinterested or overnight age creeps up and he suddenly becomes a bad player.

Every single Arsenal fan wanted him
to sign the new contract, as did Arteta and it is his job to get the most out of him, which I don’t think he is. It’s why I was annoyed at Arteta publicly announcing internal disciplinary issues at Sp*rs. Aubameyang was just starting to get a bit of form back at that point.

The good news is it looks like Balagon is staying, so hopefully both him and Martinelli will provide the back up for Aubameyang next season.

Mop, he actually puts more energy into celebrations than he does during games. Look at his performances against West Ham and Liverpool and tell me he’s actually trying. It’s Ozil all over again, plain as the nose on your face. You have a player over 30, past his best who has had a good season but he’s at a club with no chance of winning the PL or getting into the Champions League. Could he get a move to a Bayern Munich, a Barcelona, a PSG or a Man City? No he couldn’t so he moves to a lesser club but one with more idea than Arsenal or you go for a big money contract and coast. He’s got the money but he has no hope of major trophies so he loses interest. This is not being helped by playing on the left of a front 3 and being expected to track back, he wants to play down the centre. Add the fact that like other players he has no confidence in Arteta and you get a well paid dissatisfied player. Let’s see how he performs for the rest of the season.

    I don’t agree mate.

At this moment in time a big team would not take him – but August last year many would.

Against Liverpool no one played well. I am sorry but it’s far too simplistic to say he’s not trying and needs to be dumped. We’ve invested a lot of money in a world class forward who has suddenly for whatever reason has fallen out of form. The managers job is to get that form back – we’ve invested far too much not to.

Aubameyang has played on the left from the when he came here – so that certainty isn’t the reason for the downturn is it?

The contract adds pressure – which may cause loss of confidence but I see no reason why going from earning £7m a year to £14m makes a player stop trying. It doesn’t.

Fatmop and Oracle. No, Auba is not the new Ozil, but that does not mean he should start every game. I believe Ozil was more than happy to sit on his bum doing nothing for a year whilst he picked up his c£18m basic salary. I don’t believe Auba is the same animal. He’s never worked hard, but when on form, converts more than enough of the very few chances we create. At present, this team is in an alarming downward spiral, and on track to finish in our lowest League position in 36 years. Auba should stay, but Lacazette and contrary to your view, Oracle, I think Nketiah should leave. If only we had accepted the Hammers’ offer of £25m for him a few months ago. What’s the point of keeping him, when he has shown time and again, he’s not got the game at the highest level for us- shades of Francis Jeffers. On a positive, I’m pleased that we seem to have sorted out a new contract for Balogun, unless as some cynics say, that’s just to increase his market value if he is eventually sold?

I agree Jeff that he shouldn’t start every match and I hope both Martinelli and Balagon give him a run for his money, but we’ve Arteta should be able to more out of him.

I am hearing today he has Flu? Flu…!
