AFCON will be upon us pretty soon where we will lose Salah, Mane and Keita. Do we sign a forward in Jan 2022 or loan or keep our existing and hope. I opting for a loan, no point signing a new forward for £30/40 million when he will rarely get a game when our current front 4 are fit.

It’s incredibly difficult to buy a player of acceptable quality in January if we had the money let alone get a loan in. The only players moving on loan are ones not good enough to start for their team and are kicking up a fuss or kiddies who need experience, both of which we probably already have better at the club already. And of course expecting them to instantly gel with the Klopp system is asking a lot too.

Think it will be Jota, Origi and Mjnamino for January, assuming they keep fit.

Generally we struggle in Jan/Feb, frequently dropping silly points.
Now add in missing key players during that period also and I really start to worry.

There are a few interesting players like Dybala and Belotti whose contracts expire summer 2022. Perhaps we could get them on a loan before then. A loan fee plus their wages. Since Threops mentioned Origi, do you guys thinks we should renew his contract? His form this season pretty decent.

The other options as you mentioned are those whose contracts are expiring. I mentioned a couple in the midfielders thread but no one seemed interested to discuss options, just moan a lot. For the forwards you also have Demebele who we have been linked with for a long time now. Problem with him, beside the fact he’d go straight to the treatment room, is that he would want game time assurances after Salah and Mane come back. Same with a lot of players, it’s probably in their interest to wait till summer and weigh up their options. This is regarding a permanent transfer because unless they are acting an arse or permanenty injured i cannot see why a top team would weaken itself by loaning us a player.

Wouldn’t touch Dembele with a barge pole.
As said constantly injured and even now when Barca are at the weakest they’ve been in years he still struggles to hold down a spot.

Threeps I very much wanted us to buy Bissouma and/or Neuhaus as I think they’d box off our midfield for the next few years.
Bissouma is now being investigated for sexual assault and is out on bail. He’ll also be at AFCON.
Neuhaus seemingly is being lined up by Bayern but far from a done deal.

Yeah Gjnger Bissouma is probably the one but as you said he has this incident over his head and will be off also for afcon. Plus brighton have no need to sell cheap as they got a load from arsenal for White and a few teams are interested in Bissouma.

I honestly don’t think we’ll buy anyone this January and will make do for this season. Probably means we won’t win anything but you cannot magic a player from thin air, if we can’t get one then so be it. Next summer might be different with maybe the likes of ox leaving and hopefully our funds will be back to normal.

And obviously the arrival of Mbappe on a free will hopefully make up for this season…

With Newcastle’s new owners there may be some new money floating about. They’ll may spend in Jan which might present an opportunity to cash in on a player or 2 but they have nothing to play for bar avoiding relegation so may keep their powered dry until the summer when the markets better.

My fear is that this year drifts by, like last year, which means the countdown clock on Klopp, Salah, Mané, VVD etc ticks by too.

Kopite, Liverpool generally don’t panic buy in January, unless there’s a severe injury crisis like with the the defence earlier this year.

Salah and Mane can be replaced relatively adequately by Jota, Firmino, Origi and Minamino.

While Keita is hardly what you would call a consistent starter, and he can be replaced by Ox, Jones, Thiago, Milner and even Elliott. Also I don’t expect Guinea to go far in the tournament either, so he could be back quite soon

We’re in a dogfight for third place and because of AFCOM and injuries we could even end up fighting for 4th, espcially if Man U were to appoint a decent manager. I can’t see Salah signing a new deal as we are rapidly becoming a joke. Because of greed and incompetence on behalf of the owners we are in a relative similar position as when Klopp first arrived. So many seasons now were we have failed to build on Klopps great work. Its a squad game regarding trophies and our squad is nothing that special, third best in EPL at best but with a growing gap between us and Chelsea and City. And other teams are catching up our ever weakener squad.

I think it will go ahead Ginger. They’ll just up the testing/vaccine protocols.

Not necessarily, numerous players have already caught it in this country.

And if it goes ahead, as Rob says “They’ll just up the testing/vaccine protocols.” which will hopefully minimise the risk

We definitely won’t sign a forward in January. This new covid wave is going to be casting a massive shadow over potential future earnings.

As for what we’ll do on the field. I think Klopp will go with :

    Ox- Firmino – Jota

For backup then we have Origi and Minamino. Origi is back to super sub mode and Minamino, can be tidy in the box, as he’s quick thinking and technically gifted, agile as hell etc… but he lacks the strength and I think pace to play the wide roles as required by our system.

Im not actually bothered by starting Ox there, as he’s playing well ATM and it’s really as a midfielder that I don’t rate him, so I think we’ll do ok-ish. There’s no replacing Salah and even Mane TBH , so hopefully we’ll make do. Its not good and it could sink our title challenge but it’s not a crisis either.

I’d start Origi over Ox in the front 3 everyday of the week.

I would back Curtis Jones to do a job in the front 3. He used to be prolific in the youth ranks from those positions. Also has a decent goals and assists record at the senior level for a midfielder in this team. Especially don’t want to see Ox as a forward again.

There is a meeting due to take place today between CAF and the Cameroon government to discuss the fate of the tournament.

Fingers crossed the damn thing is cancelled!
