He was the furthest player forward on our right hand side in that situation.
I’m now starting to think would he better playing right midfield instead?
I was never one of those calling for it but starting to think that now to suit his skill set. Obviously that can’t happen straight away and for all we know that’s the plan going forward with Ramsay coming in and the fact that we need so many midfielders he just fills that right hand side of midfield.
Perhaps he was told that was going to be his new position this season and it’s stuck in his head, who knows?! 🤷🏼‍♂️
But it’s seeming more and more a natural position for him.

“Matip has to be our best free signing ever.” Without a doubt. Possibly the best free signing in the league also, if it were not for his poor injury record.

I just think he’s become lazy ginger, he’s pretty much fallen back to the same TAA that Southgate dropped and lets not forget that period as afterwards he played probably his best football.
The thing with Matip is he’s so comfortable pushing up into midfield, he gets back and looks generally very calm in most situations. Yes, he gets injured but as soon as he’s back in the team he’s straight up to speed. Cracking player and signing!

Can we clone a more robust Thiago for our right side please?

    Many thanks

I tend to agree with Moonster, he seems slow in reacting to potential danger.

Wasn’t hugely impressed by Nunez tonight.
    Expected more off him.

He’s just too comfortable, just look at Tsimikas today, the lad was great and he doesn’t play often! You’d think he’d need to get up to speed, but no…100% at it!
Our right side is our weakness, we know it, everyone knows it and it’ll always be the target for opposition. Some say its because VVD is on the left, but id disagree as its more to do with our left backs are solid which TAA most certainly isn’t.
Anyway, a win is a win a big step up in performance overall

Trent needs to be dropped for the World Cup, that may make him pull up his socks for Liverpool. Don’t think Southgate will leave him out though.

You could be onto something there. TAA is starting to look like he doesnt want to do the defensive side of the game at all, he doesnt look interested in it. He has never been the most solid of defenders and it’s been clear hes been instructed to overlap and get forward, that worked when we had three work horses who never stopped running in midfield and three forwards who never stopped pressing. But it’s not working now because we’ve changed our midfield for slightly more technical players and the front three are not the pressing machine they were. We know he can put in a good shift and defend well when he wants to but Taa is often seen looking at the ball go in behind him instead of chasing it. It’s like he just isn’t interested and wants to be further up the pitch. I just dont think he is going to improve as a midfielder though, he has the skill and passing range but he runs the line, imagine if he had to hold off players coming from both directions, or how open he would leave us if he kept vacating his position if in midfield. He needs someone to keep him honest and remind him that he wont start every game and that playing RB for liverpool is a pretty good gig. All that said he played very well tonight for the most part, it’s just so plain and obvious where we are going to be targeted

    I’m a fan but I just don’t think that’s true at all.
Henderson, as usual, is massively under appreciated for the work he does for others. Him being out is also showing the lack of cover.

Nunez hasnt had the start he would want, worst possible start really for a player trying to settle in. The red card was a big part of it, but he was always going to need time. He is in his own head and not playing with any freedom. Plus not starting might not be helping him. He might have made more of some of those first half chances.

If he’s been clinical forums previously I’d maybe agree but….

Taa is very frustrating at the moment, still has moments where he can open up the whole game.

Thiago showed everything we’ve been missing in midfield. Immense.

It’ll never happen, but I’d like to see a 5-3-2 with Nunez and Salah up front, Thiago, Firmino and Fabinho in the middle and Robbo and Taa with van Dijk, matip and Konate just behind them. Would probably then get the best out of Taa and Salah could stay away from that byline. But would likely cause issues elsewhere but would like to see us use different formations to suit different opposition, will settle for an occasional 4-2-3-1 but reserve the right to completely flipflop on that opinion

Hard to settle when the whole team looked broke. Did himself no favours with Klopp, getting that card either. Still think he will come good, but we mightnt see it til the new year
