    It’s interesting that every counter argument here is about Manchester United – a listed club which gets audited every year with limited budget constraints. I actually used to think the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United were on a level playing field with City but I realized recently that it’s just not the same.

    If United could spend money with such reckless abandon there is no way we would still have players like Carrick or Young in our squad nor would we have to make ends meet by purchasing (albeit) class players when they are nearly over the hill (Ibrahimovic, Sanchez, Matic).

    Look at Chelsea, they are getting Giroud in because they have budget constraints but when it comes to City, Sane gets injured and they purchase Mahrez, top class player in his prime. I’m not even sure where Laporte fits in but who cares, 60m is a drop in the ocean.

    Just as sympathy says above – City have no ceiling except the Sheikh getting bored by his little hobby.

    @steveosnakeeye. I am indeed an ABC mate hahahaha. I’m having none of it. I just cannot find an inkling of admiration for an entity that “sponsors” itself and then purchases two top class players for 60m in every position without batting an eye.

    @mufc. I say peaches and grapes. Sour grapes that is.

    @wise-fan. I take that point fully on board. City’s management has been streets ahead of everyone for a long time. They got a Director of Football in years ago and then got in top class staff but again, they paid top dollar for these professionals to poach them from clubs like Barcelona and Juventus.

    Hatters, nowhere did I say that “City have a budget that is limited but enormous” and not sure where you got that from. I have no idea whether they have a limit or not.

    The way I see it, the spending in football today is absurd and if FIFA/UEFA/FA are incapable of balancing the playing field, then it seems churlish to deny other clubs catching up any way they can.

    The fact is that if you were a City fan and I was a Chelski fan, we’d have had no problem with a wealthy owner coming in and catching us up with the rest. Took me a long time to come to that conclusion and I used to feel about Abramovic the same way you feel about Mansour but I’ve realised I was just kidding myself. I just didn’t like a London rival taking our crown, simple as that.

    In an ideal world, every team in the league would have the same chance at the start of every season but that’s obviously unrealistic. Fact is that without Abramovic, Mansour and Wenger’s incompetence, Man U would probably be winning everything, almost every year and while I’m sure you’d love that, it wouldn’t be much fun for anyone else.

    You could possibly take it one step further. If that was the case, a lot of fans would probably lose interest and eventually, clubs could close and you guys would be left playing your reserves.

    Problem with United is that after the early years of the Glazers and their mouthpiece Fergie pleading no value in the market, we tried to play catch up too quickly and replicate City and Chelsea which resulted in some horrendous, jumbled ventures in to the transfer market. We’re still picking through the bones of some of that sorry lot but season on season we’ve got better since Mourinho came in. I do think he spunked the money on Lukaku very unwisely though but we desperately needed a classic number 9 and who else was there on the market this summer? Morata, who would have been my choice…but he’s suffering a bit at Chelsea. Can’t think of another who was a realistic target.

    Anyway, this thread wasn’t about United it is about City and to a certain extent PSG. You can compare net spends and record buys all you jolly well like but the truth is….them two clubs really are on a different level to any of the rest of us whether that be Manchester United or Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich. No point moaning about it, you just have to roll your sleeves up, come up with a plan and get on with it. Investing in renewable, cleaner energy and electric motor cars might be a start and bringing down nations with vile human rights records might be a start. :-}

    Hatters “I just cannot find an inkling of admiration for an entity that “sponsors” itself and then purchases two top class players for 60m in every position without batting an eye.“

    City transfer record is £57m, with only 3 signings above £50m? I can however think of a team from Salford that has spent above £60m a number of times….

    As has been said on the thread a few times now the difference is not on the amount spent, rathet the quality of purchases. As a city fan i would very much welcome going back to the days when a Wimbledon could rise from non-leasgue to compete in the Tio tier. Sadly will never happen as football is an industry now, mire than a sport

    HK Blue slightly off topic but I recently bought a coat which makes a loud rustling noise when I’m walking due to the sleeves brushing against the body of it. Really annoying as I like it otherwise.
