I was there 9, wow! I remember two elderly gents dancing on the pitch afterwards in sheer joy. We won very little afterwards until about 1994 and then the club was raised to a new level by Roman (thanks Roman). The first trophy you see won is always the best!

Remember it well 999. Living in a flat in North Bondi, a 13 year old listening to the match on BBC Radio as it went to extra time and the news came on from 7am and always went for 20 minutes. No internet in those days to even see score changes. Finally the news finished and after a few other interruptions it was announced that David Webb had scored the winning goal. The old man went ballistic and nearly threw me head first through the ceiling. One of his happier moments in life bless him.

Great memories lads. I had to go awol to get to the game and got my Mum to phone my Boss and say I was sick which was a tricky phone call because he understandably didn’t believe her.

I went up to OT with a bunch of my Chelsea supporting mates I’d got to the Wembley game but they hadn’t so it was great for us all to be together we got to Euston to board one of the specials which took us straight into OT and there were press photographers everywhere at Euston and I was worried about getting caught on camera and getting my picture in the paper which would have been a very difficult explanation the next day.

We rode our luck in both games but we wouldn’t give in the equaliser by Ossie and the winning goal caused pandemonium in the Stretford End I had never felt such joy especially for the winning goal with myself and my mates welded together hugging each other as the Stretford End went completely bonkers the journey back to Euston on the Chelsea specials was fantastic and my mates Dad picked us up at Euston and drove us all home from there. Next day I faced the Boss which was very difficult but I stuck by my story of being taken ill and watching the game on TV.

I’ve often described that night as the best night of my life but later on in life and after getting married and having my son’s my wife picked me up on that and I had to change that to the best night of my Chelsea supporting life which just about got me off the hook.

As Alanp rightly said “The first trophy you see won is always the best!” But back at Wembley in 1997 in the Chelsea end with my two sons and their Grandad that pushed it close as did the PL titles and the CL win.
