Still buzzed about yesterday’s game; although we’ve had many false dawns post-Fergie, it does feel like ETH is changing the mentality at the club this time round… hpe I’m right!

On a side note, how good is Gabriel Jesus? Thought he played really well and bullied both Varane and Martinez at different points; imagine we had him up front instead of Rashford/Ronaldo – what a difference he would make to our attack with his constant pressing and directness.

yep. jesus was a cut above everyone else. what a player. I think city made a rare error in letting him go. he’s better than grealish.

    Different positions?

Jesus can play as an alternative winger or as an alternative front man or as a second striker. I fail to see what grealish adds to city. he’s just not skilful enough to play the city way.

Good result, Arsenal were the better team but Arteta has been working with his squad a lot longer than us.

Would be good to know why Casemiro is not starting.

    Wasn’t Haaland an upgrade?

    #2131164

@Scholesy – Haaland is a different type of player though mate – Gabriel Jesus is more flamboyant and more of the “pest” type who gets involved in the build-up, etc. whilst Haaland is more of the Van Nistelrooy type who just seems to be in the right place at the right time and will always put the ball in the back of the net.

In any case, both would be major upgrades in our team leading the front line.

    Cheers

@blacky – Yeah fair point in Eriksen. He’s starting to find his groove, i think because ETH has actually found the right role for him linking the play. I don’t think the previous criticism of him was undeserved. But, unlike you, I can now say yes he played very well and hope he kicks on now and does that every game. So I’ll, ye know, get behind the lad and support him!

Whereas you will always think Rashford is shit no matter what. Did he look sharp to you yesterday or still like a drunk, just out of curiosity?!
    😆😩🧐😊😉😢

@happy – For most of the game he looked exactly the same as he always has and always will look to me, ie nowhere near good enough to play in a team challenging for the top trophies. He’s got pace as we all know, but unfortunately fuck all else.

Hopefully his pace can be used to it’s full effect by Erik. I worry more for Sancho because he doesn’t have Rashford’s pace but seems to have the same (lack of) decision making. But he does have a lot of time on his side. So let’s see.

Maybe ETH is stumbling onto something though? Ronaldo and Casemiro to come into that team as well…

yeah Jesus is a real pest. a better version of sterling imo. maybe he would never have come good at city, maybe too much pressure, I really can’t say. But he looks phenomenal so far at arsenal.

Unfortunately Sancho won’t ever be effective in this team because it’s only real threat is on the counter attack, which makes it even more laughable that the clueless one didn’t actually realise that and was so obsessed with buying him, seeing as that’s the only ‘tactic’ that he ever had.
I’m sure ETH will want to evolve our style of play to become much more possession based as most Dutch coaches do which will help Sancho get on the ball much more and be a threat, but whilst we’ve got the likes of Fred and McShite coughing the ball up for fun every time they get it that will never happen.
Not only that, I don’t see Casemiro making that much difference either based on what I’ve seen from him so far.

It’s a big change in style, not just in moving from the Spanish Primera Liga to the Premier League but also from Real to Man Utd. Injuries aside, it took Varane the best part of a season. I think Ten Hag is doing the right thing by Casemiro, he’s big, strong and mobile, can pass and tackle but he’ll get a lot less time here on the ball than he does in Spain. It will take some getting used to.

To be fair, Sancho has good quick footbwork which is vital against defenses that fill up the box (which most of our opponents will do). Also, Sancho hasn’t reached the form and skill levels he did at Dortmund… why that is I’m not sure but he can perform much better than even his best games for us here. ETH has to find a way to get that version of Sancho playing for United.

Agree with pretty much everything said about Jesus. Quality player, better than Grealish but needed to become the main man at Arsenal to bring that out
Also, City swapping Jesus for Haaland and Alvarez for a net spend of about £40 million (I know Haaland will be on massive wages) was great transfer business

Looks like Antony will make that RW position his own leaving Rashford and Sancho to compete for the LW position. Both players need to improve but that competition should help them
