Can we keep up the intensity we showed against Chelsea in the first half or will we appear tired and jaded. Let’s face it we couldn’t last more than 45mins against Chelsea and with our defence mistakes will always occur and our senior players will be the ones that let us down. Please please don’t play Mustafi, I’d sooner play with 10 men. And let’s not have Xhaka back, our midfield is so much better without him chugging around the pitch like an old tug boat, giving the ball away, slowing everything down, not tracking back and giving away needless fouls because he is so slow. Oh and Martinelli instead of Lacazette with Abameyang through the centre. I’ll settle for a point.
December 31, 2019 at 11:56 am #1812062We need to make changes as we were running on empty at the end of the game but not sure who is fit ? Martinelli I am not sure he is fit. I would bring back xhaka for Gwen. Sok if he can play, for chambers but also not sure he can play? Our problem is we may not have any options. This high intensity is dangerous when you are not 100% and the last thing we need is more injuries ! Ideally we need a win but feel this is going to be a big ask as united are like Chelsea much better away from home and we have a bucket load of injuries! Just pray for as you said at least a point but ideally 3 even if we play crap!
January 1, 2020 at 10:06 pm #1812527What an absolutely top notch performance. This is the first time I’ve been happy after a very long time watching this team play. It’s amazing what just a change of the coach can do.
Tactics were spot on.Game should’ve been done in the first half itself.I have no complaints about any player, only praise.Even the likes of AMN,Ozil etc were brilliant.I loved the tactic of xhaka filling in as a false left back which allows kolasinac to move forward and use him to his strength.
I thought lacazette was superb for a change, his work rate was probably the best yet.But my MOTM was Torreira.Genuinely think there’s top class player in there.I feel like this team peroformed to it’s maximum capacity today.Every single player and that’s the most we can ask from a coach.
But more so,I think what really gets me is the sheer passion and aggression in this side. It’s like this team wants to prove a point, and we desperately needed this win.
Shocking to think we had only one win in 15 before this game. It’s a shame that tierney is out, we should’ve thought about signing an injury prone left back.
Will be tough for Arteta but let’s see.January 1, 2020 at 11:17 pm #1812555Well that’s a first you happy and no complaints! Got to say congrats to Ateta on his first win as Boss and a very good performance against a United team that are very good away from home. I won’t get carried away but these are the same players that looked shite a few weeks ago now with a decent coach they have not turned into worldies but they look like a team. It’s still very early days and won’t see how good arteta is until it goes wrong but so far he has done an excellent job.
January 2, 2020 at 8:13 am #1812570this is what many of us have been crying our for, yes its the same bunch of players but we knew if they were coached right their sum would be better than the individual parts that have been playing, every man new his job and worked his socks off, supported each other and frankly a deserved win that should have been more comfortable but a 2-0 win, clean sheet and beating united (at any time) is a great feeling, long long way to go but at least you can see signs of what Miki wants and he seems to be getting all players on board, nice to see smiles after the game all round and a very loud boistorus stadium, first itm in an age…just need to keep this up game by game and once all players are back from injury we should be OK for a top half finish and ready to kick on after the summer
January 2, 2020 at 8:53 am #1812578Right lads. The thing Is I actually look forward to watching this team play now.In the past few years I had given up on this club.
I genuinely think Arteta is on course to become a world class manager.I’m liking everything that I’m seeing. The passion, desire, aggression.Remember when we all said this group is “uncoachable”.No they might have limitations but they’re surely coachable and we’ve seen that in the past few games.
I just hope this board backs him with the right signings.Personally,I don’t think he will get what he wants. This club will always have limitations in the squad, due to the owners now putting in any money.
What a sad situation.Imagine if we actually had owners that care and were genuinely ambitious. With Arteta at the helm, we could’ve been on the level of the top most clubs such as Real, barca,Liverpool etc.But I’m more than convinced as long as the Kronkes are attached to this club we will never ever come close to winning the major trophies no matter who the manager is.We could have pep and Klopp combined and we still wouldn’t win the league.
January 2, 2020 at 10:08 am #1812612i disagree that we dont put money in or support managers, we are right up there in the top 5 or so for expendature, we just havent bought that well and always in attack so very unbalanced, i think there will be some goings and some coming in, likley not January but in the summer and we will get players that he wants rather than the club wants, to build his jigsaw…..
January 2, 2020 at 11:20 am #1812650I have never believed it’s all about the spend. We can’t shop at the top top table and we never will be able to. Even if we could there is no Guarantee. We need a platform, stable club, stable structure and then do it organically. As I said Arteta has had a great start in terms of just getting his message across so quickly but just worried we start going over board and then next week we will all be saying it’s a mistake. There will be bumps along the way and I want to see how he comes through those but I think the boys upstairs could have played a blinder in getting him and I was not at all convinced. Some of the things he has done seem obvious, the obvious one is the team is much more compact and what happens is, if Xhaka ,prime example, gets turned or beaten you end up running straight into a defender or torr so the gap is now behind the back four not in front. Xhaka needs to stay at least to the end of the season we just don’t have better at the moment plus he is playing well and his partnership with Torr has been excellent since arteta took over. Ozil is another beneficiary and is actually working hard for the team and AMN is a right back forget any other position. I think hulk has been much better this season any way before arteta came back in that he has learned to defend a bit better and is fitter and he is still one of our more potent attacking options. Anyway Great waking up and we have won had forgotten what that felt like!
January 2, 2020 at 2:01 pm #1812731Have to laugh, The Stupid One who has been slagging Arteta off daily now tells us he’s going to be a world class manager on the basis on one win. He really is the gift that keeps on giving. As for more important matters, the match. Similar start to Chelsea, much improved in all areas, the differences being we deservedly scored a deserved second goal and when we tired unlike Chelsea there were no mistakes and we managed the game perfectly. Much improved but I’d like to see us do that away from home and against a much better side. Let’s face it Manc Utd really are crap, a very poor side who have as many if not more problems than we do. Pepe came alive in this game, about time and Torreira is back to his early last season form and Lacazette showed a great work rate. Signs are now looking good. Now dump Mustafi and Xhaka and bring in a top central defender and improve fitness levels.
January 2, 2020 at 2:21 pm #1812741steves – I meant that this board won’t gather a capable enough squad.Yes,we do spend money but we always miss out in some departments. If we have a strong attack, we will have a weak midfield and defense.Next season,If we were to let auba go, we might sign a midfielder which we anyways need but we will fail to replace auba.
A weak and unbalanced squad is exactly what’s happened this season. It’s almost like this board wants to do enough just to please the fans, but they don’t want do enough to genuinely win.I’m sure if you analyze well, you’ll know what I mean.Basically what I’m saying is I so wish we had owners that cared, because now that hopefully we have the right manager we could’ve been doing wonders.Shifters – what’s this?Your Millionth attention seeking wind up post?Slagging off Arteta?Hahahaha.Without even failing to provide one quote from me slagging Arteta off?I was the one who rallied for this club to sign Arteta a few weeks back when there were many reservations about his inexperience.I mean if you’re going to wind up at least learn to do it properly you bimbo.
January 2, 2020 at 3:02 pm #1812755thats IF they go and things may change under the new reigime and i think Arteta will both build and be given the players to build what he wants to accomplish (withiin certain boundaries City may not have) i think with the youth we have including Nketia in that, if we can sort defense and midfield then regardless of if we Auba or Laca, martinelli/Nketia/pepe and the other youngsters can do it IMHO, just as they are Chelsea and other clubs…its not all doom and gloom tho our board will likley contrive a way for that to be the case!
January 2, 2020 at 3:42 pm #1812767what a fantastic win & performance from the lads.a great win to
start the new year and we must now build on this.one of the reasons
i turned on emery was him trying to turn torreira into an attacking
midfield player when we all know he’s a defensive one.since emery has
left torreira has been our best player by a country mile.my MOTM last
night and i will also give credit to xhaka who had his best game for
afc IMO.ozil doing 11+k is something we haven’t seen and i really hope arteta
can get the best out of him.arteta is building an identity at the club
and for the first time in a long time,it was great to see us attack
and defend as a unit.yes we left a few spaces 2nd half that would concern
me if we played pool or citeh because they would have punished us,but
we are building and we can’t expect too many miracles right away.all i
hope now is we look to sign a couple of players and lets see where we
are come march/april.best performance of the season by a mile.well done
to the team, arteta and us fans who were fantastic last night.January 2, 2020 at 6:22 pm #1812795The energy and ferocity of the team in the first 45 had me on my feet for the first time in many years. Arteta has in a short period of time ingrained the work ethic that is necessary to compete in the PL. Now there needs to be a solid recruitment plan put in place so that Arteta gets the players he needs to begin the trek back to competing for CL spots. That plan should also include getting the youngsters out on loan.
January 2, 2020 at 10:21 pm #1812890TSO towards the first quarter of the season I said Emery out and you and many others said it was the players fault, and no matter which manager nothing will change. Now all of sudden the players are ‘coachable’ not only you, some others are flip flopping, not necessarily on this board so I think you should calm down with the Arteta praise.
I wouldn’t have had Arteta as first pick but what he’s produced so far in terms of performances has been very satisfactory. But you were along with others right about one thing: our players are not good enough but I maintained a decent manager of any sort could get more from this group of players just not anything special in terms of challenging.
January 2, 2020 at 11:04 pm #1812911Bsm – Oh please…I’m not flip flopping here.I never said emery had been doing a satisfactory job this season. However,Yes I did defend him and still do.I always made a case that there were many factors involved of why it wasn’t working out with emery.I also said that no manager would do wonders with this squad.I always said even if we got a new manager,How much improvement could he show?Last season we finished 5th.Missed out by one point was it?Lets see how long it will take us to get back into the top 4.
You lot over criticised emery time and again and I even gave examples of it.
That was my problem.I didn’t defend the job he was doing this seasonSimple fact is emery had lost the dressing room.I don’t know what it was,Maybe language barrier or whatever but there’s still a decent manager in there and thus notion that many Gooners came up with that he’s the worst thing that happens to Arsenal is quite honestly ridiculous. He holds the most wins in the first 50 games of any arsenal manager,He also overachieved last season. This season even though I again didn’t expect a top 4 place he was underachieving and that’s why I wanted him gone.
Anyways,The reason I gave Arteta so much credit is because of his immediate impact. The fact that we said this is such a bad group,And yet it took only one game for a debutant manager to have such an impact proved he has a bright future and he’ll certainly win trophies at other clubs.
January 3, 2020 at 2:12 pm #1813100There is at least one uncoachable player in the squad and thats Mustafi.
4 managers now and still cant defend.
