just to clarify, Leiceter winning the PL was punching above their weight… newcastle finishing top 4 would be also, not spuds and pool!!

Stuiles – I disagree mate, the wage bill has the closest correlation to league position than anything else over the years, although there are obviously exceptions.

Will have to agree to disagree Paxman. Look at Utds wage bill as a classic example.

Stuiles – Check out this link, statistically wage bill has the best correlation to league position, you have to look over many years and many clubs, just picking Utd over the last few seasons, or Leicester one season is far too small a sample size, that is not how stats work.

It’s the tail wagging the dog scenario mate. The top clubs generally attract the best players, who earn the best wages. But….the club’s are successful and win games mainly due to a players all round skill and managers competence. Get a team and just pay them the highest wages won’t lead to them being successful.

Stuilse – That is where you are missing the point, I never said paying the most money is the reason for being successful, that would be stating that if you paid Sunday league players £1M a week they would win the league, that would be moronic.

Yes the reason for the correlation is that the best players get the best wages, so if the team with the highest wgaes, so therefore has the best players, is under-performing to such an extent do we then not need to look at other areas, such as the manager, tactics etc?
