At this moment in time, with the ridiculous figures being quoted for Centre Backs – Alderweireld for £25m is surely too good to turn down? That said, he’s 30 and we’re targeting players a lot younger in Ole’s new recruitment strategy.
Wouldn’t be surprised if we went for someone no one had us linked to…

You need to check on that happy – I was reading something explaining (not well) that the buy out is not so simple as that.

Alderwierald’s release clause only kicks in for a particular period of the window. I think it is just for a particular fortnight, towards the end of the window.

    Ah I see. Hmmmmm, interesting.
I wonder if Ole is thinking Lindelof and Smalling are good enough with Tuanzebe, Jones and Bailly as back up. On paper it looks shite but I guess if he can get the team playing the way he wants it then maybe there are other more pressing areas of the team to improve.

A solid CB pairing had always been the rock Fergie’s teams have been built on. If Ole wants to play that way, he needs to upgrade, simple as. Lindelöf is fine, another CB and another CM is the minimum we need.

happy, I think CB is the teams most pressing issue along with the midfield. Every team needs a solid foundation and we desperately need that as well as a bit of leadership through the spine of our team.

Ole has often experimented with playing a four at the back with one of the full-back tucking in when we attack to form a 3 man defense with 2 wingers (one very attacking and one more defensive) supplying width. The modern game revolves largely around fluidity in attack and we haven’t shown much of that since ‘08 when we had a front 6 of Hargreaves, Carrick, Scholes, Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez with the latter 2 dropping into midfield to interrupt the oppositions build-up play and Hargreaves tucking in from the right to allow Ronaldo to stay up front – effectively making it 4-3-3 in defense and 4-4-2 in attack (similar to France’s current system with Matuidi on the left and Mbappe on the right).

Good signing, helps both the right side going forward and the right sided CB, can’t be underestimated the weakness that Young was at RB. Now we just need 3 or 4 more signings. Sign Bruno Fernandes, Longstaff and Koulibaly or Isaa Diop and if Pogba leaves sign Maddison

We are actually doing some genuine business but when i remember we still have Smalling, Jones and Young its frustrating.

We only have Young for one more season and if Pogba leaves he might be able to help reverse some of the damage done by the virus as he is one of the few left with a link to Ferguson.

Has anybody seen Alderweid play lately? He’s undergoing a quick downward spiral and decline. He’s not the player to take us back to the glory days. I will not sign Alderweid for free. If Woodward sanction Alderweid transfer he has not learnt from his flawed mindset and six years of abject transfer failure.

I have read the internal email written by Ed Woodward and he says that there will be more signings to compliment wan bissaka and the Daniel james deals this window. But he also says that Olé is predominantly focusing on bringing young British players in. I hope that’s true.

Issa Diop is a monster of a defender. We should sign players like him. We’ve got loads of players who they could choose as a makeweight for this deal. Phil Jones plus 50m.

@killyboye – Smalling, Jones and Young needed replacing 7 years ago. Cant believe they still stinking out our defence.

tMA, I’d think we would have to pay West Ham (or any other club) an added 50M to take Jones off our hands!

I’d imagine between AWB and Dalot, Young isn’t expecting much game time this season, at least I hope not

Roygbiv – Yeah I agree. I think Lindelof would benefit immensely from a world class CB beside him. But what about in Ole’s first 12 games in charge? Did our defence look weak then? I just wonder if Ole is thinking investment in attacking areas would negate the need for the £100m CB we desperately need…

happy, for Ole’s opening 12 games everyone was high on adrenaline and out to impress the new boss (or potential managers/suitors). Also, we don’t just lack defenders who can defend but who can also organize, lead and are good on the ball as well. We don’t really have anyone who ticks those boxes but I agree that Lindelof will benefit immensely from playing with someone who does. I’m still not 100% convinced in the Swede but he’s the best we’ve got at the moment.
