Apparently United plans no major outlay this summer, with replacements for Carrick and Fellaini and squad players unhappy with their playing time being replaced from within the club! It sounds as if Shaw,Darmian, and Blind will leave.April 23, 2018 at 3:02 pm #1627235
To be fair, I don’t think United spend well in the transfer market. I think it’s good too see the likes of Pereira, Tuanzebe, Fosu-Mensah get places in the squad given they have performed relatively well at their loan clubs. And that’s forgetting the likes of Gomes and Chong whom I think should have some game time in the future.
For me I think there is going to be a raft of changes.
Smalling/Jones/Rojo (1 of them at least)
Fosu Mensah (for Valencia)
Tuanzebe (for either one of the CB’s that will leave)
Rose (for Shaw)
Kroos (for Carrick)
Fabinho (for Fellaini) and can cover RB
It’s quite an exhaustive list but next season I think it would be quite exciting to see a line up of:
RashfordApril 23, 2018 at 3:36 pm #1627252
Cant see Kroos and Fabinho coming in unless Pogba leaves m8.Would be good to see Mata go too and I wouldnt shed any tears to see Herrera depart too.No way are Young and/or Valencia are leaving in my view.April 23, 2018 at 4:16 pm #1627275
Martial (I would replace the lazy fuck with Willian)
A Left Back
A Right Back (if Valencia is sold)
And promote some young players
–Valencia/New RB—-Bailey—–Alderweireld—–New LB—
——–Willian—-Lukaku—-Sanchez————-April 23, 2018 at 5:22 pm #1627293
I don’t think it’ll be as big and sweeping as what’s been listed above. I can see;
PereiraApril 23, 2018 at 6:23 pm #1627320
I think if he keeps all four of Rojo, Smalling, Lindelof and Jones then he wants his head testingApril 23, 2018 at 6:54 pm #1627337
Well he can’t get rid of Lindelof, yet! He seems to like jones. Smalling has been our best defender!
Rojo it is!April 23, 2018 at 7:19 pm #1627351
Who has just signed a new contract…same old same old or whatever it was Bruce Forsyth used to say.
Just don’t see a title winning partnership among that quartet and three of them have been around the club way too long. Leaves a lot of responsibility on Bailly who we all know is made of plywood.April 23, 2018 at 7:54 pm #1627379
Bailly is struggling with injuries and lacks experience so yes, Smalling has been our best defender, but that’s a very low bar. The easiest way to consider whether someone is good enough for Utd is to think who else would sign them. You probably get down the table to Leicester/Everton before they’d start to consider Smalling as a decent signing.
Spurs, however, seem to be doing their very best to make Alderweireld leave, a player IMO, who would strengthen anyone from City downwards, a must sign player if he becomes available. Alderweireld and Bailly, that’s got the potential to win titles!April 23, 2018 at 9:44 pm #1627418
I don’t think it’s surprising that Mourinho has said that because I believe he actually is far more entrenched into the club than we all might want to believe. I think he has the board sold on a 5 year plan.
Over time it is starting to appear to me that Mourinho has Woodward (and therefore the board) completely under his spell and will be here for many years going forward, regardless of the style of football and the patent evidence of him wasting attacking talent when if he made just a slight adjustment towards an attacking mentality, we would be so much more powerful as a team.
Of course we all remain as observers and unqualified amateurs when speaking of football management.
Thus far, Mourinho has done a great job in my opinion in terms of getting players to understand the meaning of the shirt, developing the team to have a gameplan, lifting trophies, and also making us fighters – he has done a magnificent job. We are unrecognizable from what we were under van Gaal.
The problems now arrive when we talk about the defenders that are naturally bad (Jones, Valencia, and Smalling) along with Lindelof (out for jury) and Bailly (consistently unfit) and also the fact that the fans in the terraces aren’t impressed on the style. Look in midfield and we have Fellaini and Carrick leaving with surely better replacements.
It’s a tough one to call. Either way, come mid-season 2018/19 I want to judge Mourinho on how he is able to make our current attackers flourish.
So far he has proven to consistently improve our first team results and performances over his tenure.
I dread that we might now see a period of austerity from the club – spoken by Mourinho and dictated to him by the Glazers.
If this happens. We might truly see ourselves watching some dire, albeit effective football from Mourinho sprinkled with the odd trophy here and there. Thing is though, Mourinho is highly likely to win us the big trophies if given the time – I include the Champions League there.
Only time will tell gentlemen.April 23, 2018 at 10:37 pm #1627431
Maybe it is a ploy to keep inflated transfer fees down or keep us out of the spotlight as much as possible until our signings are complete.
Mourinho wants to win and will have identified what he needs to play to his game plan.April 24, 2018 at 8:44 am #1627486
At the very least we need two new young athletic FB’s,a CB,two CMF’s and a right winger to come straight in,as well as the young lads mentioned to supplement the squad.
I dont see how either Shaw or Martial can survive or even want to stay on as it stands,so they will go along with Darmian,Blind,Fellaini and Carrick.
I would also not be surprised to see Mata leave due to his age and contractual situation. As far our CB’s are concerned it’s a conundrum, they are either unreliable, injury prone, shite or a combination of all three so god knows which one if any will get the chop this summer and to be honest it wouldn’t bother me at all if all five of them did, especially now that Eric Bailly has turned into the new Darren Anderton!.April 24, 2018 at 9:53 am #1627507
I think we’ll definitely lose one CB this summer, just who it may be is another question. There’s a case to get rid of any or all of our CB’s this summer, including Bailly and Lindelof.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Smalling go despite the fact he’s been our best defender this year, having said that he’s inconsistent and it doesn’t say much about our defence to say that he’s been the best, he’s been the most fit more than anything, not necessarily the best.
Jones, Rojo and Bailly are sicknotes, potentially great defenders but never fit long enough to make their mark. Jones is unquestionably a better defender than Smalling but who would you want, the good, permanently injured CB or the mediocre, permanently fit one? Bailly needs a full season uninjured before fans get really excited about him as a first team player, if he gets injured again next year I’d ship him, we can’t have another hospital case like Jones on the books for another decade. Rojo is a good footballer but he’s a classic South American CB, full of latin passion which is likely to get him sent off or do himself an injury making a ridiculous lunging tackle which is also likely to get him sent off.
We’ll have Tuanzebe back next year which is a positive. He should have learned a lot from both Steve Bruce and John Terry in the last few months and SHOULD be a better player as a result.
At wing back, I think Jose will hold on to Shaw for one more year unless a big offer comes in. TFM will be a right back and Valencia will also be competing for that role. I wouldn’t be surprised if we went in for Fabinho due to his ability to play at RB and CMF.
With Fellaini and Carrick going, CMF is the most important transfer move we’ll make this year. Pogba, Matic and AN Other for next season. Herrera will continue to be a squad player from now on I think.
Overall and CMF and a CB will be the priority for Jose, he’ll make do with what he’s got unless someone comes available at the right price.April 24, 2018 at 9:54 am #1627508
On the other hand, how lucky are we Jose avoided going for S.Aurier? What a fooking waste.Just need Jose to do the same with Bale,Willian,Vidal, and any other player older than 26-27,and yes I include here CR7,Messi,Lewandovski,Muller,Kroos,and the likes.April 24, 2018 at 10:52 am #1627536
Has Fellaini actually announced that he is leaving? If not, I can see no reason why Jose would want to let him go given how he it utilised.
We know Carrick is retiring so that’s a definite out. Everything points towards Shaw leaving given how he is treated and it’s starting to look that way for Martial sadly. We could be seeing the next de Bruyne or Salah scenario with those two. Rejected by Jose only to go on and be world class elsewhere.
Blind’s Utd days seem to be over too. Has he been injured all season or just not picked?
I agree that a CB should leave but which one? It’s impossible to know who Jose will go with. They all have their faults but are all chosen by Jose for one reason or another.
I would be delighted if Tuanzebe, Fosu-Mensah and McTominay get more game time next year as well as Gomes and Chong and Perriera.
If Shaw is to go we need a left back. Sessegnon at Fulham is my number one candidate but he’s not a Jose signing – sigh. He’d already be our player if Sir Alex was still here or even LvG.
We need a CM too. Someone in the Keane/Gattuso/Vieira mold. A leader who will pull players like Pogba into line if they aren’t pulling their weight on the pitch.April 24, 2018 at 11:09 am #1627546
MT-Jose said regarding Fellaini:if he leaves, nothing to conclusively point either way.But lets hope MCT takes his place even though a very different player. And as you said,Perreira to come into the 1st team.April 24, 2018 at 11:12 am #1627547
Killyboye-As much as I am terrified of huge signing I would go for K2 of Napoli.What a beast of a defender.April 24, 2018 at 11:32 am #1627554
He certainly pops up at the big moments, took his goal well the other night.April 24, 2018 at 11:50 am #1627568
hell of a mountain too………April 24, 2018 at 12:21 pm #1627586
Fellaini is out of contract manthistle and very very unlikely to sign a new one so he’s almost certainly off this summer. I think he enjoys playing for Mourinho but has never really felt much appreciation from the fans which is understandable. Plus, he knows he’s got one big pay day left in his playing career, especially as he will be on a Bosman. We’ve made him a more than fair offer but he feels he can get better elsewhere.
Strangely, the PSG rumours do seem to have legs….I lumped a tenner on it this weekend at 33/1 and it is now 10/1. Stranger things have happened. But not many.
