Sorry to be a stuck record but please Roy play anybody else up front. If we are to stay up we cant rely on ZAHA getting us penalties and Milo scoring them, we need a center forward who can hit the onion bag. Benteke proved time and time again yhat he is incapable of even hitting the target never mind scoring. Points lost again yesterday. Liverpool were there for the beating and we end up with nothing again. Where was Sorloth again, not even on the bench. Was Tomkins injured as he wasn’t even on the bench either !! Surely we must have someone in the u23’s who can score goals. BENTEKE has score d 2 all season.. not even good enough to warm the bench for any other team surely Roy !! His time is up and so will Pace’s stay in the premiership if we cant find a goals scorer !!April 2, 2018 at 2:52 pm #1618975
With you on that one… After about 30 min I was hpoing he’d put Loftus Cheek on instead.. Just damn bad luck, Sorloth breaks down, Wickham breaks down.. not that our summer window and jan windows were not a disaster in terms of acquisitions…
We made Liverpool look ordinary at times, but we were toothless with Benteke, and the ref not sending Sane off was about the worst and most biased decision I have seen all season.
We have 6 games to save our prem status.. unlike those around us we don’t have top 6 teams to play, that will only help if we can beat those in front of us.. I think we can do it… But if we don’t then we will lose more than half of this team and have to start a new chapter… but if we stay up, we are not that many players short of being a really competitive side… but that is something that should not have taken 5 years to happen… For me the idiotic decisions have been the sale of Gayle and Murray… Last season Benteke looked a brillant but, this year he looks like Ade AkinbyeApril 2, 2018 at 2:55 pm #1618979
We do have quite a few youngsters who can score.. I’d agree.. If Sorloth and Wickham are still injured, put one or two youngsters on the bench to come on… we only have to look at Wan Bisakka to know we have some quality in that youth team.April 2, 2018 at 3:56 pm #1618998
Thats exactly my point we were forced to play Bisakka and look what a revelation he turned out to be!! Benteke is officially the worst striker in the Premiership .. missed 20 out of 22 big chances. We cant survive without a goalscorer whowever we have to play. Time for Roy to be brave and pick a youngster upfront . They are fearless and that’s what we need , not a passed it has been who couldn’t hit a barn door from 5 yards. If only i was 30 years younger id be chopping at the bit to make a name for myself. Come on Roy . Time to become a Palace legend by playing a unknown youngster upfront who will save our season, otherwise we are down . We have been blighted by injuries yes but Benteke will be reason we go down if we do !!April 2, 2018 at 5:44 pm #1619020
Jeano I don’t see being brave comes into it. If we are only playing with 10 men then playing with a youngster, who fails, means we are no different. Thing that bugs me is that he is working more and in defence and that he can and one time will come good. Because of his reputation has to be marked. However, can we wait that long?April 3, 2018 at 12:50 am #1619059
As much as I squirm every time he misses (which is quite often lately) the way we are set up he needs to play and for us to get behind him to give him the confidence he is so down on. He is contributing and the look on his face when he missed both goals showed how much he was hurting, also Roy said he is happy with his work rate and he won’t be dropped anytime soon. The way I look at it is that against Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool we should have had a point and ManU and ManC we should have won so that is 9 points lost not because of Benteke only but the way we play, so deep it only takes one shot to unravel all our good work, we can get away with it against lesser teams but with the top 6 they have enough firepower to land that sucker punch. We need to press higher and control the ball more when in winning situations.April 4, 2018 at 11:16 am #1619572
The ball does arrive in the box for Benteke to attack.. but unfortunately Benteke does not arrive in the box or find himself a decent position to attack… he’s all the ability and none of the applicationApril 4, 2018 at 1:09 pm #1619630
Which is why he must be dropped and now before its too late. He wont be playing for us if we stay up or go down so why are we perserving with him. There must be an alternative. He needs to go to the USA or China because his reputation in this country is shot. He is the reason why we are sitting on a knife edge. If we had a striker who was even half decent we would be already safe and planning for this season. Instead we are playing for our premiership lives. Im sorry but Benteke must take the blame. The rot really started when he took the ball off Milo in the final minute v Bournemouth.. a team we play on Saturday. I hope he can repay that with some goals this weekend but i wont hold my breath. I hope we can get Sorloth fit and on instead !!April 4, 2018 at 7:31 pm #1619749
Sorloth is having a scan for hamstring injury.. that doesn.t sound good. So Roy you must try a youngster up front. Can someone tell me if we have an U23 striker who is fit and knows where the goal is ? A chance for a youngster to become an instant Palace legend !!!!April 10, 2018 at 1:48 pm #1621906
I am sorry for sounding like a broken record on Benteke and Roy but after reading a recent article where Roy said it was the best we played going forward and we didn’t miss Benteke I have to reply. Not sure if any of you saw the game or read Roys article but he is either having a lend of Brighton trying to put them off or has no idea. The article link is below https://www.croydonadvertiser.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/palace-boss-bournemouth-best-forward-1438039. Now I watched the game and in the first half there was not one shot on goal by us and Bournemouth missed 2 sitters in the first few minutes. Wilf and Andros time and again ran the ball in to the box only to stop and wait for others to arrive as Bournemouth had defenders covering and there was no way through. There was no focal point and we didn’t look like we could score. Start the second half and 5 minutes in Luka curls in a free kick it all changes, Bournemouth wake up and start attacking and all of a sudden the game opens up we are the allowed to run into an open goal as their defenders are caught out and even after 13 shots we only manage to get one more in. Yes Roy we had chances galore in the second half but all barr one to no avail even without Benteke fluffing. Make of it what you will, I believe we will stay up but not convinced Roy knows what he is doing.
