    Another WBA stalwart has left us. I watched him at the Hawthorns most Saturdays between 1968 and 1972 along with Astle, Bomber, John Kay etc. If only we had someone like him now. At least he no longer has to watch the dross that’s been turning out in a Baggies shirt over the last few years!

    Indeed. One of the club’s best ever players and the creative hub of the team that won the cup. I saw his first match as a sixteen-year-old against Arsenal in 1961 which we won 1-0. The headline the following day was “There’s always Hope for Albion now.” Sadly his passing represents the death of hope in more ways than one.
