Looking back on the back of Tuesday’s events, I hope there’s starts for at least a few of those for the trip to Bournemouth this Sunday.

Ovie Ejaria, Trent-Alexander Arnold and Ben Woodburn spring to my mind. Equally, Lucas grows better and better as a veteran leading by example and I hope he too plays.

Adam Lallana should hopefully be back and Danny Sturridge could feature too. Consideration what’s recently happened on the injury front, I feel there’s plenty of options to pick a starting 11 and subs.

We are starting to keep clean sheets and now boast a 15 match unbeaten run from all competitions.

There’s a bit of an incentive for us as Saturday, Man City face Chelsea. Either way, there will be one outcome and we have the luxury in playing after them.

The key I hope is that we come out of the traps quickly and try and get that early goal.

Tuesday couldn’t have gone much better for the team. We won without straining our first 11 too much and one of our youngsters scored a goal, with other good performances from some of the other U23 players.

We all love to see the youth prospects doing as well as possible and hope for break-throughs etc etc. . but let’s put things into perspective, we barely beat Leeds Utd. I think we deserved to win, just about but it may have gone the other way. .

The young fella’s you’ve mentioned did well but they clearly aren’t on a good enough level yet to start a PL match (unless of course we had no choice). For me, we have to put out as close to our typical winning formula as we can. What I take from the Leeds match is that we have some quality to maybe use as a sub here and there when we’re not under pressure. Players who can come in to learn when we’re able to afford them a chance. . but that’s it.

    Wijn Firmono Mane
    Can Henderson Lallana
    Milner Matip Lovren Clyne
    Karius

If Wijn doesnt work there I’d bring on Origi and put Firmino on the left. If we then bagged a few goals and things were comfortable, I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of the young lads but I certainly don’t see any of them starting. We cant be too sentimental, we’re chasing 3 vital points. The above is of course done on the assumption that Lallana will be back and that Sturridge won’t. . maybe that wont be the case. .

    Appreciate your thoughts Mr Mak.

I totally agree with the idealogy of keeping intact a template of 11 names who have predominantly been regular starters for us, over the course of this season so far.

    Cheers

I thought the Leeds game we were fortunate. Leeds didn’t take their chances. Mignolet did well. Good to see Alexander-Arnold cross for the goal and great to see Woodburn score, but I wouldn’t start them on Sunday. Ejaria and Stewart struggled. Mane didn’t have one of his best games. Can was good in the 2nd half. Origi didn’t have the best game, but with 2 in 2 it will boost his confidence and I’d start this team Sunday assuming Lallana and Sturridge don’t make it: Karius/Clyne/Matip/Lovren/Milner/Henderson/Can/Wijnaldem/Mane/Origi/Firminho.
We need to play as strong a side as possible. Hope City and Chelsea draw. We’ll find out what we’re made of now Coutinho is injured.

I bet my left nut Rob’s gonna be part eunuch by Monday. Origi will get a start if Studge has not recovered from his latest hurty leg

Rob, I think Origi will start with firmino out left. We didn’t start to play in Tuesday until winji dropped bsck and Woodburn went out left. I think lalanna will be on the bench. Hopefully sturridge aswell.

So is this game seen as a banana skin for us?

I wouldn’t be upset to see Origi start but he does really well as an impact sub and when he starts it’s hit and miss. If Lallana can only make the bench then it changes everything and Wijn does have to be dropped back.

Would be great to see Sturridge make the bench though, to see him get and take his chance while Coutinho is injured and score some goals.

Has anyone heard why Firmino was not in training?

How did you hear that he wasn’t? Damn, if he’s taken a knock we’re going to be really light up top.

Firmino was taken off with a knock at the weekend but from I gather it wasn’t too serious. I’d imagine he’d start this weekend.
This game may have come a week too early for Lallana though.
We need goal threats in our front 3 and Wij just isn’t. He’s much better in the midfield 3.
I can see either Origi or Sturridge starting with Firmino and Mané in the front 3.

We’ve been hit with a few injuries and to make matter worse they all seem to be in the same area of ty pitch which doesn’t help. I think we should have enough to overcome Bournemouth though.

Gibbo if you ask that question of Sean I’m in doubt he would say it was.
In fact if you asked before any match he would say it was ?

Sean and a few others Ginger, I was just getting it out on the table so we could argue about it for 24hrs and then move on to a decent discussion… as per the norm 🙂

Just found out Lallana is back in full training again.
Maybe he will be ready for this weekend after all.
    Bonus!

    LOL

Well what else are we gonna talk about :p

Thing is, we have have a few injuries and it’s no small thing but I’m glad we’re going into Bournemouth with this and not Man City. As Ginger said, we should still have enough to beat Bournemouth. This season I choose not to believe in banana peels, we have to respect the opposition but we also have to see them for the food that they are. So they can be bananas for us that we peel and eat and then throw behind us for someone else to slip on!

Every match is a little piece of the PL trophy. It’s that simple and the players have to want it but so do the fans, this nap-time thing that goes on with them sometimes isn’t good enough, not if we want to win the league.

In fairness, I do think Bournemouth are a more tricky opposition than some of the other potential banana skin teams (there are about 15 of them 🙂 )

Bournemouth are a decent team and are well organised. If we want to be considered contenders for the league (and I am in this camp) then we should get 3 points on this one. However I wouldnt be considering a 7 goal haul on this one, maybe just 4 or 5 🙂

I quite enjoy Sean’s posts to be honest. If everyone just goes on about how we are going to stifle Bournemouth in their own half and slowly turn the screw until they capitulate where is the fun?

Aye Captain, its only a bit of fun. It would be very boring if we all had the same opinion. These matchday threads do usually end up going the same direction so Im only trying to have a crack and making it a bit humorous before we all get into the inevitable ‘negativity’ battle… peace
