The advantage of them both right now is that they are learning the same stuff at the same time. he will have a chance to have each on opposing sides in training, with experienced partners and may even do that for a while in the PL but we’re also in a very very desperate situation defensively, so Im hoping he puts them both in before he’s entirely comfortable.

I guess we can afford to have Fabinho back there for a while but hendo cant play another match at CB.

“I’m OK with being wrong”. Clearly you aren’t.

I am asking you to add up the minutes, knowing well that I may actually be wrong, so…

You got so aggressive about a general statement dude, what gives?

Ah I know what you mean razor chum

    Fabhino be cb all season

Can’t see us starting Davies/ Philips or kabak/Philips or the new lads together

Thought Philips did nothing wrong again tonight and kelleher did very well.

Just far to slow in everything we did and most disappointing thing was the lack of fight

    That’s not us.

I’m sure some players are wrecked. Milners 4th game in ten days.

Robo now a bit out of form

Milner for me escapes without a shred of blame, the guy is a trooper but he shouldnt have started today. The team is run through now and Klopp clearly has his trusted lads. I can see why he started Milner cause many of them have no determination. I think I was calling for Milner to be started some weeks ago and I wouldn’t fault him, even if he was poor tonight.

anyway will catch up later, gotta go. love you all.

Carra is my all time favourite player and I see a lot of him in Phillips. I also see the potential for him to be a much better all round defender than Carra was who could maybe even go toe to toe with VVD in the air. I think it would be a waste to move him on or bench him. CBs who can instill fear and take away their opponents’ will to fight have already won 1/2 the battle before going into a match.

Can’t believe Milner started this game after playing so many games in last week or so.
The guys 35. It showed tonight.

Philips defo played very well again tonight.
In normal circumstances I wouldn’t want to see him starting v City but our options our limited. Really hope Fabinho is back.

Origi has been terrible for 18mths now.
We missed our opportunity to sell him for really good money and reinvest.
He’s been very poor off the bench and digging into his past to prove a point smacks of not being able to admit yer wrong.

Hes had 2 good periods in his Liverpool career that have lasted just a few months.
    That’s it!
    Nothing more.

The players are tired from 2 seasons of intense football. The league is a write off this season. The league is a write off this season we got a better chance in the champions lge.

Thats great ginger, keep going my lad. I mean if you feel such a need to get tetchy over a simple general statement that was preceded by me saying I wasnt so keen on either substitute but you’re a normal enough person right.

I think the high line is actually a huge hindrance right now. Not from a defensive perspective but an offensive one. What we observed against Spurs and West Ham was that playing about 20 yards deeper created more space in behind the opposition defence for the likes of Salah and Mane to get in behind. Henderson and Thiago especially can play the ball into those kinds of spaces from deep. When we’re defending on the halfway line, we’re just getting crowded out with 5 defenders against our front 3 and the wide players taking our FBs out of the game with our midfield being unable to do much with the lack of space. In that kind of scenario there’s no space for the forwards to use their pace and we resort to crossing against 3 CBs with 3 players under 6ft in the box. Something has to change tactically and I think we should focus on drawing opposition defenders out of their box.

“Thisgo had been disappointing but let’s give him time. New system etc.”

Thing is I’m worried about Sean mate is that it’s more us adapting to him rather than the other way round. As I have said it could be because of the injuries or the intense fixture list but part of me thinks this is Klopp’s plan to turn us into a possesion based team with technical players like Thiago. Whatever the reason it is not working at all. If it is to perseve the players then what is the point to keep them strong for the run in when we are already too far adrift?

    He was out of positiion!!
Anfield was a fortress the last 2 moths is a playground!!
Someone would beleive that aftrer the 2 away wins with very difficult opponenets we could have produced soemthing better but great DIASAPPOINTEMENT ia the only feeling.
Another ridiculous performance and we must try hard to finish in TOP4.
    Excuses?? none!!

And what should they be reassessed to?

One of the main reasons Thiago joined Liverpool was because he liked our midfield, he even said it himself. And of course playing with world class strikers and defence.

Now when he looks behind him, he sees Henderson and Phillips in defence, instead of Van Dijk and Gomez (or Matip). And how many games has he even played alongside Fabinho and Henderson (or Wijnaldum) – just one game, not only that, he’s played less than 60 min with Van Dijk.

I believe we will see the best of him once he plays alongside our first choice midfield, just like he did in his last season at Bayern

redsforever “The players are tired from 2 seasons of intense football.”

Maybe that is a factor, but I think the main reason for our slump is that more than any other top team, we are missing too many key players at the same time, and having to play top players out of position, namely all our 3 CBs out for the season, Jota out for 2 months just when he’s coming into the best form of his career, Thiago missing 2 months because of injury and Covid etc.

Hi @ Rob Fart Worth TX

You reap what you sow. Wouldn’t have made any difference who we started tonight or the formation. Mentally we weren’t there so technically, tactically and physically wouldn’t be there either. 10,000% improvement needed or City will batter us.

I just came to say hello. What happened to Liverpool reigning supreme for the next 10 years? If you are looking for a holiday I hear you can’t beat Brighton this time of year 😂

    LOL!

We were doing quite well without Thiago, winning all of our home games if I’m not mistaken. To be clear I’ve been calling for Thiago to be dropped since a few weeks, not because he’s a bad player, but because he should not be tasked to be the one to pull the strings when he’s finding his feet here. Then there is the question of style change because Klopp needed to shoehorn him in our midfield.

Klopp should logically be blamed for that but tbf to him, there was so much derisive talk of our midfield workhorses, even among our fans that he likely felt pressurised to bring in a ‘world class’ creative midfielder. There’s the saying ‘beware of what you want’ that comes to mind.

Captkirk, exactly my point about Thiago. No one can say he’s a bad player he’s been at the top of the game for a while now but is he right for this team? Think it was John Barnes who said last season something like “why is everyone going on about Liverpool needing a creative midfielder? Look at the table. Maybe people should say teams with creative players need more workhorses in their midfield.”

    Quite simple really.
    Consolidate top 4
Finish as high up the league as possible
Go as far in the CL as possible.

    Time to face facts.
