I’m not among his biggest fans. But well done to him. His technique on the ball was undisputed even by his biggest critics. But i always felt he was lazy when the team didn’t have the ball so in that scenario he was a liability. His workrate is also poor. His tackling is weak. May be he could play a midfield that has so many destroyers and where plays the creative force. These days you can not carry a passenger in the PL. Anyway well done to him. I’m happy for him as a Chelsea player.

Cesc is still a very useful squad player imo although I suspect this is his last season with us. If the rumours are true a move to Atletico would be good for him imo.

Arguably our third best player at the club after Hazard and Jorginho. Its unfortunate that we failed to appreciate his talents whilst he was with us. Any team that gets are getting a great players who can unlock doors with his passes. I don’t know why we will force him to defend. Or is he worse at defending than Jorginho, Silva and others? The answer is no. But that shows our mentality, we judge players on their defensive quality rather than their attacking qualities, or at least that is what our previous coaches par Carlo and AVB led us to believe about players. We are in an era where flair players are thriving for the first time at Chelsea. And Fabregas isn’t exception. He will do well.

WF – have to disagree with you. If we had the Fabregas of 5 years ago then I would probably (reluctantly) agree, however, he is no longer the player he was and we have to carry him for large parts of any game he features in

I also agree that we should not ask him to defend because quite bluntly – he can’t. Unfortunately for him his legs have gone as well and even though he was capable of finding a pass these (IMO) are becoming a collectors item and he simply does not deliver often enough

I would argue that if the Milan teams come in for him, as rumoured, then we should get as much as we can and let him go. KTBFFH

You don’t get in to Guinness world record without possessing some extra ordinary talents. And that is what Fabregas has. Fabregas has never been an athletic player, he was more like a technical player. But what happens is that coaches that suit to coach athletic players are told to coach Fabregas. They care how much space he has covered and not how many crucial passes he gave, how many assists he had, how many goals he has scored. I saw people were mad on Kante when he arrived and attributed our title win in 2016/17 season to him. Although he had a fraction if not less than that contribition. I told them the attacking players wake up and performed to their standard than Kante arrive and lift everybody. 3 years later Sarri is showing us that Kante who is an athletic is not neccessary for our play to blossom whilst Conte led us to believe that we couldn’t step in to a pitch without Kante.

Fabregas is a great player and his record speaks for itself. Wenger coached him well. Pep never required him as he had Xavi and Iniesta at their peak. And the rest who coached him didn’t know what to do with him. While Wenger saw a great player in Fabregas, Pep saw him as a back up to Xavi and Iniesta two of the best midfielders in the world to date. And since then he was misused in my opinion.

No one is told to coach Fabregas unless he decides to join the team and you would have to assume that he would be aware of (a) how that team normally plays and (b) what tactics are normally employed by that manager

When younger, and I did say a Fabregas of 5 years ago, he was a good player capable of finding a pass but also capable of at least assisting in the middle – even for ticky tacky Arsenal. Not sure you should be comparing Fabregas to Kante as their attributes are like chalk and cheese…?

Anyway, we are not going to agree on this one so while I acknowledge his ability to get that award for me his contribution today does not reflect that which is why (IMO) I am happy for him to leave. KTBFFH

Fabregas and Kante no comparison – 100% correct. Different strokes for different folks.
