Barca is flattered by the result. Chelsea played vey well and was unlucky because Courtois was in very bad night yesterday and the ref did not award a penalty to Marcos Alonso.

Sean, I think Liverpool on their day could beat all of the major European teams left in it. The team for Liverpool to avoid imo would be City as across a two legged tie they would be difficult.

Liverpool are in a good place right now they got a favourable Group and a kind draw with Porto their confidence is up and in forward mode they are as good as anyone.

I definitely wouldn’t discount them winning it and I think they and City have a real chance now. I don’t think any of the Big 4 European teams are as good as they were and both Liverpool and City have got better. Best if luck anyway mate. Cheers 999

Does the “through the legs” thing happen alot with Courtouis then or was it just a one off last night? Very frustrating that for Chelsea, you prepare all week for that little scrote Messi but you can’t legislate for that.

I reckon if City didn’t bottle it and went about their business as they have been doing then they’d murder this Barcelona side.

So chaps, was it a pen on Alonso last night?

To me I’d say on balance it was. The only way Pique could stop Alonso from shooting was to lay all over him from behind, grab his arm and make sure a tangle ensued.

It wasn’t a foul in the sense of a wild lunge that takes an opponent out, but rather a subtle professional foul that is certainly going to prevent a shot. To me that’s a pen.

Other than that decision which I felt the ref got wrong, I thought he had a good game. A good, strong ref. Although he should have booked Messi for wagging his finger in his face!

Ahhhh….I remember the good old days when we could look forward to getting spanked by Barca every season. Good times.

ash i thought it was a nailed on pen at 1st but unsure after the replay. He still casued alosno to hit the deck??? tough one but maybe it should have been a pen

barcas behaviour towards the ref was a disgrce. Surrounding him every decision.
they are always at it. Cant stand busquets but he is some player. Looks like he doesnt do much but he never gives the ball away

cheers nine but i remember you predicted us for 2016 europa league mate lol

i fancy city or madrid mate

Liverpool are the one team who can give City major problems, but it works the opposite way. It would make for a great final.

If that is the final, I’m off to the jungle in May.

I thought penalty at first Ash but on the replays I just couldn’t see a foul being committed. Maybe it was too subtle for me?

Can’t believe Messi wasn’t booked for that. He’s starting to look more and more like that David Mitchell off the telly.

Ash – I have to agree with you, the club pages seem to be overly negative always focussing on bad points and generally ignoring the good aspects of the teams, the general site seems to be a lot more even, obviously once you filter out the trolls 🙂

WG, no it isn’t a particular problem for Courtois. By his own admission he had a bad night last night. Fair play to him for not making excuses.

Would like to thank all my general page bros for the empathy and positivity for my team.

As we all know, it hurts in football when you give it a bloody good go but somehow you still come up empty handed.

But it definitely softens the blow to read the supportive posts of Liverpool, Man U etc. fans who love their football and call it like it is!

    Nice one lads

Don’t think Barca can win, they rely too much on Messi’s magic and don’t press or have the legs they used to. Busquets in particular doesn’t run or defend as he should. Yes, he keeps the team ticking over in possession but when they don’t have it he’s a passenger.
I’m reckoning Bayern could be dark horses especially with Jupp Heynckes back in charge, he’ll have them playing the swift counterattacking swashbuckling football they played when they last won. If not them, then it has to be City or Real.
To be sure Chelsea were unlucky last night, two of those goals Courtois would usually have saved in his sleep and to hit the post twice(?) as well. Could have been so different on another night.
United on the other hand, well we were septic, what’s Jose doing? And then to sit there and pretty much say what’s the big deal I knocked Utd out in OT with both Porto and Madrid this shouldn’t be that surprising? The balls on the fucker….

To be fair to TMA he posted a comment that I personally appreciated very much at 8.25am today. My post at 10.50am today was partly with TMA’s contribution in mind.

Not taking sides Shanks, but credit where it’s due right?!

If Bloggy and I can bury the hatchet and be friends then maybe a TMA-Shanksy love-in isn’t completely out of the question 🙂
