I said on on another thread that I have great deal of belief in MCT this season,to do the things Herrera did, just much better.Him,Pogba and Fred should be our midfield.

ps:Alfie-Cant you give tMA 3 points for predicting the correct goals scored & the 3 goalscorers?

For years United have been crying out for quality in 3 positions. Right back, centre back and right wing. This game just highlighted to me how much Ashley Young and the endless list of mediocre centre backs have been hurting this once great club. I can’t put in to words the difference that Wan-Bissaka and Maguire have made, it’s ridiculous. Keeping that back 4 and starting James could potentially be the start of finally going in the right direction. 7 British players played for utd yesterday as well. 6 academy players.

Well done United. I’m not just saying this because we won this game, after all, it’s only one game, but I don’t understand why United are seemed by many to be in a mess while Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are seen to be better. All of them limbed through their last 5 games at the end of last season with only 3 wins in their combined last 20 games.

Killy – Shame on you mate! Predicting a loss on the first game of the season, would never be me!
When i saw Chelsea’s line up i thought they looked very inexperienced. But they really surprised me in those first 20 minutes. I think Lampard will get the best out of Barkley this season and Pulisic looks like he’ll be decent. That’s where it ends for Chelsea though, we absolutely blew them away in that second half. They just couldn’t cope with our pace and power, or our fitness levels! Harry Maguire was an absolute beast, not sure he was MOTM over Rashford though. Not getting carried away after 1 game, obviously still some weak links in the team but the back line looked very good yesterday. Luke Shaw will need to up his game or else he’ll be the weak link across the back 5. Couldn’t have had a better start, don’t ever remember putting 4 past Chelsea. Head is still sore!

We have seen the best and worst of Pogba’s game yesterday. He needs to hold possession better and play ball simple in his half, he’s too careless on the ball. Despite this, his talent is unquestionable. He’s need to be more consistent and stop being careless with the ball at times.

Great result. Missed most of the game so waiting to watch it when it comes up on mutv before commenting. Good to read McTominay seems to have had a good game. I think I feel the same as most here. He’s not likely to ever be world class player but can definitely be a very important squad player in a top top team. And isn’t that the point in having a youth setup? Bring through the kids, play them when possible and then sign some of the very best players in the world to play alongside them

Great result, could have gone the other way in the first half and we were lucky we got in front and spaces started to open up.

Sometimes a team needs that luck, and what was evident was that as confidence grew, individual performances got better and better.

    Few points from the match:

Luke Shaw really struggled, one on one he is excellent and hard to get past, but he looks constantly caught in two minds as to what he should be doing. Going forward he lacks decisiveness and always looks worried about the counter-attack, but then when he does go forward, he often does gets it wrong and is found out of position for counter attacks. I think this is a mental issue and he needs to sort himself out this season quickly.

The midfield was ok, shaky at the start, but got better. Pogba was poor the first half, but showed his class overall making 2 goals to put the game out of reach.

Pereira I thought was decent, good passing, made a goal, decent on the corners, but failed to take charge of the game at all. What I would say about him, is that he’s hardly played any senior games as a central midfielder for any club, and that’s he’s only had 20 appearances for us over a few years, most I think as sub or league cup games. The guy needs a decent run of games to see if he can show some form and improvement.

McTominay was decent as well, he’s got the determination and character to be a top player if he keeps going.

Maguire and AWB excellent, I think we would have lost this match with last seasons defence.

I think Shaw is almost suffering from post traumatic stress after Mourinho. His comments during the game were pretty low-blow and not for the first time. Shaw needs to get that out of his system and build up an understanding with both Maguire and Rashford. This is a make-or-break season for Shaw, I feel because modern football places very high demands on full-backs and with the right side sorted Ole must look closely at the opposite flank.

Happy, I think the Chelsea back four missed Lukaku more than we did. Tough afternoon for them with pacy runners left right and center!

@roygbiv It’s either that or Mourinho and Van Gaal were both right about him. The excuses have been coming for a few years now, first it was the injury, then the mental block coming back from injury, then the weight issues, then his manager being tough on him, then him not putting enough effort into training, now he’s got PTSD from being not very good for a few years.

Either way he needs to take control and turn into a man this year.

@happyhurling that is a great stat, one for Rom’s twitter account.

Mike, that may well be true but there’s a way of talking to/about your players and the public flogging they gave him didn’t do him much good, I think. Mourinho has a Masters degree in pettiness and Van Gaal is just plain bonkers so let’s see if Ole can help Shaw reach his potential or if he’ll need to replace him next season.

Except for City, Liverpool and maybe Spurs every team has at least one player like Zouma.

Until last week we literally had no center back combination that didn’t include at least one Zouma!
