All reports from last nights game suggest that you can’t question the performance or the commitment of the players or the ongoing support of the match going fans towards Mourinho who were there in their thousands and who were very loud in their ongoing support of the Manager again last night.

Typically in such situations Chelsea are getting no breaks at the moment even losing Costa in the 33 minute but as benni wisely pointed out on another thread such things will turn around and the good fortune that we are currently not enjoying will return as ultimately will the results. Keep the faith!

I want Mourinho to stay but he has to change his ways in terms of the whole us against the world approach. He needs to put an end his war of words with Wenger and other managers and stop blaming the referee’s via the media. Basically he needs to be more humble in front of the media. If he continues this current path (even if we somehow win the league or other trophies) he won’t last another year as i don’t think RA wants our clubs reputation damaged.

Agreed. I know my posts have been rather anti-jose lately, but that’s just born out of frustration by his behaviour. I would like nothing more than for Jose to stay and turn things around, and he has earned the right to be given the chance, but the tantrums and negative media HAS to stop, otherwise he really will lose the support of the players, the fans and ultimately, the board.

I want the old Jose back – funny, charismatic and able to create a bond with his players where they would die for him.

Those spectators are exactly like the barmy army -they blindly shout, sing and support anyone connected with their club. Good supporters but not very bright

We actually miss Andre Schurrle, a player who was willing to run in behind the defence without the ball! Plus he didn’t mind taking a shot outside of the box.

Hey everyone, I just thought I would do something no one has really looked at. I have just counted up all goals scored by Chelsea (25) to see where we have been scoring goals.

    G = goal in open play (12)
L = goal in open play from distance (2)
SP = goal via set piece (8)
    OG = own goal (3)

    Heres the trend:
    SP OG G G G G L SP G G G SP OG G G G G L SP SP SP G OG SP SP

As you can see the trend for the last 8 goals is saying nothing is coming from open play.

We have scored 12 goals from open play, but note 7 of them were against Maccabi and Walsall. Then there has been 8 set plays of which half of them were crosses that went straight in the net or bobbled around until it fell kindly. Lastly there has been a couple of screamers and fortunate own goals from either majorly deflected shots or crosses.

Goal scoring and the taking of chances has been a real issue for us ever since Mourinho has returned to Chelsea. Last night was a prime example over 20 shots and more than enough clear cut chances for any team to win a game.

You can blame confidence and the current climate at the club but this problem of taking legit chances has been an issue for Chelsea for a while and it’s affecting the team more than ever because the whole team is playing bad where as before the defense would always make up for attacking complacency.

Chelsea have only conceded 3, scored 4 in the last 4 games and in these games we have had enough chances to score in each game to say that should of been 8 goals in 4 games.

On the back of Bort’s post, I would like to add that I’d quite like to see Remy get a decent run in the team. Personally I think he’s actually the best finisher we have, and not afraid to take a shot from anywhere, whereas a lot of our players at the moment seem to only want to shoot when they are a metre away from the goal. I have no stats to back this up, but it wouldn’t surprise me if his goals/minutes ratio was better than Costas.

moos – That’s unnecessarily insulting. I dont always think the majority are right on things. For example, the X-Factor is Britain’s most popular TV programme, but what we are talking about are opinions – not measures of intelligence. Most of the people who traveled last night are long term supporters, people who are prepared to give up time and money to actually physically support their club, and for me, because of that commitment, their opinion carries all the more weight.

But the point is that is it merely an opinion, and looking down at your nose at them, just because they have a different opinion to you, is horribly prejudicial to a large number of people and does you no credit frankly. It wouldn’t surprise me if many of them have higher IQ’s than you or I.

Blue Lion , you are probably right re Remy but we look lost as a team when Costa doesn’t lead the line.

We could go with two strikers by changing the tactics but I can’t see that happening in the current predicament.

To follow up my post about scoring and taking chances, I keep hearing a lot of people saying we will get out of this! things will eventually change! and so on. Look I don’t like to be the pessimist but we have saying this week after week since the first preseason game against NY Red Bulls and it’s getting worse every week.

I hope it changes but unless we start scoring at least 2 goals per game then I don’t think it will improve. You can see our defense is not as tight as it was before so don’t expect a clean sheet. With other teams able to score at least 1 goal a game against us, Mourinho needs figure out how to improve our lifeless, wasteful, tired and sloppy attacks. There has literally been nothing there in front of goal! whether it be movement, creativity, composure, instinct, all of these symptoms have shown up in various games this season and this is our true problem.

The team that kicked off the 2014 season; moving, creating, finishing has been stripped of all it was over the last 12 months I don’t know how? but maybe Mourinho’s attacking methods are just shit! and he has know clue how to get players functioning in attack, all I know is he does know the defensive tactical game and he is a master.

    Good points again.

Still believe that everything else flows from having a tight defence get that right and then you have a chance of getting something from the games two poor clearance at West Ham cost us two goals.

We need Costa fit and scoring regularly though and others chipping in and we need to be scoring regularly from open play.

Agree 999 defence has to be tight.

I understand the logic if we concede no goals then we always have the chance to pinch one or two and win the game.

Theres also the logic that if we were to retain controlled possession for most part of the game we will limit opposing teams to very little chances. A case of if they don’t have the ball how are they going to score?

That last one is the reason why I think our defence is conceding more. The succumbing of possession to opposition pressure has happened to much this season and it leaves the defence and its lack of pace wide open.

We need to retain possession in key areas better and have way more energy and ideas going forward.

Going forward one of our main problems is our left side is so predictable because we have two right footers. Neither Hazard or Azpilicueta go on the outside of the opposition right back and cross the ball so teams know they are going to come inside on their right every time. Hazard in particular tries the same move every time; inline with the 18 yard line he passes from the left infield to someone (normally Fabregas) Hazard then follows his pass and runs inside the right back and defender into the box receiving the ball in return he then looks to cross or shoot. If that fails because its clogged up on the left side the ball ends up working its way to the right where Ivanovic is wide open because teams know he could cross 100 times and only 10% would worry them.

Anyway thats one problem in attack there are many more, like the fact the players move around like its a game of Subbuteo.

bort, I think it’s all going to take time mate in the first half of last season when confidence was high we were playing some delightful stuff with the game away to Schalke one of the best footballing performances I have ever seen from a Chelsea side but that was when our confidence was high.

With confidence currently low I think we will stick with 4,2,3,1 and look to be difficult to beat the full backs won’t be that encouraged to venture too far forward and the wins when they come will be low scoring wins. Cheers 999

Nine, I hope you are keeping well mate. I just can’t see anything but a Chelsea win on sat. I don’t think we will see Liverpool really improve until klopp gets his own players in. chelsea haven’t been playing badly recently. They played well against stoke according to reports. They ere good against west ham with ten men. I’ve read costa will be plau.He gave skirtel an awful time last season.

Liverpool just aren’t creating enough at the moment. Ings and sturridge are a big loss. Hopefully Benteke can start on sat. I’ve said all along Chelsea have too good a manager and players not to recover from this. I don’t even think its Chelsea’s results that are the big issue. Jose’s off the field behaviour is the main problem. 1st time he’s been in this position and hrs not handling it well.
I would take a draw now. Chelsea will up their game very soon and I can on,y see a win for them in sat. I think if we had a fully fit sturridge we could cause Chelsea some players but unfortunately he’s injured again.
